I saw this at Voice of the Family.  You can find it other places too.

The entire Synod of Bishops (and the fancy people running it) received a marvelously cold slap in the face with the wet towel of real “reality” in a speech by a lay woman from Romania.  She didn’t waste time or words, but laid right into them.

My emphases and comments:

The following intervention was made by Dr. Anca-Maria Cernea,  President of the Association of Catholic Doctors of Bucharest (Romania), at the Ordinary Synod on the Family on Friday.

Your Holiness, Synod Fathers, Brothers and Sisters, I represent the Association of Catholic Doctors from Bucharest.

I am from the Romanian Greek Catholic Church.

My father was a Christian political leader, who was imprisoned by the communists for 17 years. My parents were engaged to marry, but their wedding took place 17 years later.

My mother waited all those years for my father, although she didn’t even know if he was still alive. They have been heroically faithful to God and to their engagement.

Their example shows that God’s grace can overcome terrible social circumstances and material poverty.

We, as Catholic doctors, defending life and family, [that is, actually doing something] can see this is, first of all, a spiritual battle.

Material poverty and consumerism are not the primary cause of the family crisis. [BAM!]

The primary cause of the sexual and cultural revolution is ideological.  [BIF!]

Our Lady of Fatima has said that Russia’s errors would spread all over the world. [Do I hear an “Amen!”?]

It was first done under a violent form, classical Marxism, by killing tens of millions.

Now it’s being done mostly by cultural Marxism. There is continuity from Lenin’s sex revolution, through Gramsci and the Frankfurt school, to the current-day gay-rights and gender ideology. [Naming names, too!]

Classical Marxism pretended to redesign society, through violent take-over of property.

Now the revolution goes deeper; it pretends to redefine family, sex identity and human nature.

This ideology calls itself progressive. But it is nothing else than the ancient serpent’s offer, for man to take control, to replace God, to arrange salvation here, in this world.

It’s an error of religious nature, it’s Gnosticism. [KA-POW!]

It’s the task of the shepherds to recognize it, and warn the flock against this danger. [OORAH!  Is that what the Synod Fathers are doing?  I’m just asking.]

“Seek ye therefore first the Kingdom of God, and His justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

The Church’s mission is to save souls. Evil, in this world, comes from sin. Not from income disparity or “climate change”. [Do I hear an “Amen!”?]

The solution is: Evangelization. Conversion.

Not an ever increasing government control. Not a world government. These are nowadays the main agents imposing cultural Marxism to our nations, under the form of population control, reproductive health, gay rights, gender education, and so on.

What the world needs nowadays is not limitation of freedom, but real freedom, liberation from sin. Salvation.

Our Church was suppressed by the soviet occupation. But none of our 12 bishops betrayed their communion with the Holy Father. Our Church survived thanks to our bishops’ determination and example in resisting prisons and terror.  [I guess they were culture warriors.]

Our bishops asked the community not to follow the world. Not to cooperate with the communists.  [Can we hand the Synod over to this gal?  Please?]

Now we need Rome to tell the world: “Repent of your sins and turn to God for the Kingdom of Heaven is near”. [Is this what you are hearing from your pastors these days?  Or are you getting a bunch of half-mumbled, mealy-mouthed temporizing?]

Not only us, the Catholic laity, but also many Christian Orthodox are anxiously praying for this Synod. Because, as they say, if the Catholic Church gives in to the spirit of this world, it is going to be very difficult for all the other Christians to resist it.  [THWACK!]

PREFACE

This little book is as valuable as lengthy pamphlets, as much for the importance of the subject that it discusses (a subject, sadly, very little known by most Christians) as for the abundance of doctrines and the interest of its practical applications. “The great means of salvation,” such is the title that St. Alphonsus de’ Liguori gave to a tract on prayer published with many other works from his pen. And so great was his confidence in the efficacy and the power of prayer to assure the salvation of souls, that he would have wished, said he, to see his little book in the hands of everyone. About the exercise of the love of God and of perfect contrition, we can say, with just as much truth, that they are “the great means of salvation,” because between an act of charity or perfect contrition and the acquisition of eternal life, the connection is more intimate and even closer than between prayer and salvation.

Consequently, I would like to see this little work, like St. Alphonsus’ own, in everybody’s, convinced as I am that the careful reading of it and putting into practice its teachings would open the gates of Heaven to a multitude of souls in danger of eternal damnation without it, and it would increase, in a marvelous way, the Grace of God in those who have been faithful since their baptism.

Every Christian ought to be soundly instructed about the capital importance of the act of perfect contrition and of charity on account of the inestimable services that such knowledge can render us at the hour of our death and allow us to render at the deathbed of a dying person, to whom Providence might lead us. No one, even in good health, should forget this truth. But it is desirable overall that everyone cherish it deeply engraved in his heart for the hours of infirmity and the perils of death.

May it please God that this pamphlet be distributed as far and wide as possible. There is no doubt that its reading will be accompanied by abundant blessings.

INTRODUCTION

When you open The Golden Key to Paradise, you will want to know whether the content suits the title. Maybe you’ll be skeptical, and you’ll wonder whether you’ve gotten hold of some kind of self-help book or 1 program.

The answer is no; it is a genuine key, and one very easy to turn: it is perfect contrition. It can open Heaven for you, every day, at every moment, if you have had the misfortune to close it through mortal sin, and especially if, at the hour of death, you don’t have by your side a priest, the dispenser of divine mercy. Perfect contrition will be the last key that, with the grace of God, will open Heaven for you. However, to do so, you must have acquired the habit of using it effectively during your life. How many souls, thanks to perfect contrition, have been assured of heaven, who without it would have been completely lost! “If I were able to traverse the countryside preaching the divine word,” said the learned and devout Cardinal Franzelin, “my favorite sermon topic would be perfect contrition.”

PERFECT CONTRITION

I

What is perfect contrition?

Contrition is a pain of the soul and a hatred for sins committed. It must be accompanied by a good purpose, that is to say, a firm resolution to correct oneself and to sin no more.

In order for contrition to be real, it is necessary that it be interior, that it come from the depths of the heart; it must not then be a simple formula uttered without reflection. It is not necessary to show it either by sighs or tears etc. All those displays may be an indicator, but they are not the essence of contrition. That resides in the soul and in the will determined to run away from sin and return to God.

Beyond that, contrition must be universal, that is to say, it must be understood of all sins committed — at least of all mortal sins. Finally, it must be supernatural and not purely natural, for that has no use. This is why contrition, like every other good thing, must come from God and from His grace. Only the grace of God can engender it in us. However, God always grants us the necessary grace provided that we ask it of Him, provided that we possess good will and a sincere and supernatural repentance.

If our repentance is based on a motive of interest or for a purely natural reason (for instance, temporal evils, shame, or illness), we will have only natural contrition, without merit. However, if it is based on some truth of the Faith (such as Hell, Purgatory, Heaven, God, etc.), then we will truly possess a supernatural contrition.

This supernatural contrition can be, in turn, perfect or imperfect — and here we are come to our topic of perfect contrition.

What, then, is perfect contrition?

In a few words, perfect contrition is contrition based on the motive of love, and imperfect contrition is that which is based on the fear of God.

Perfect contrition is that which flows from the perfect love of God. Now, our love of God is perfect if we love Him because He is infinitely perfect, infinitely beautiful, and infinitely good (love of benevolence) or because He has shown us His love in a wonderful way (love of gratitude). Our love of God is imperfect, if we love Him because we expect something from Him.

Accordingly, in imperfect love, we think above all about the favors received, and in perfect love, we think above all of the goodness of the One Who bestows these favors. Imperfect love makes us preferably love the favor itself, whereas perfect love makes us love the Author of these favors, and our love is less for His gifts than for the love and the goodness that these gifts show.

From love, contrition flows. As a result, our contrition will be perfect, if we repent of our sins for the sake of the perfect love of God, whether from benevolence or from gratitude. It will be imperfect, if we repent of our faults owing to the fear of God, whether because sin has made us lose the reward that we have been promised, namely, Heaven; or because we have earned the punishment imposed on the sinner, namely, Hell or Purgatory.

In imperfect contrition, we think particularly about ourselves and about the evils that sin brings in to us, according to the light of faith.  In perfect contrition, we especially think of God, His greatness, His beauty, His love, and His goodness; we consider sin an offense and that it has been the cause of the many sufferings endured to redeem us. We wish not only our own good, but that of God.

An example will help us grasp it better. When St. Peter had denied our Savior, “he went forth and wept bitterly.” Why did he weep? Was it for the shame that he was going to endure in front of the other apostles? In such a circumstance, it would have been a purely natural pain and without merit. Is it because his divine Master is perhaps going to strip him of his dignity as an apostle and Supreme Pastor, or drive him from His kingdom? In this case, the contrition would be good, but imperfect. No, those aren’t his reasons at all. He repents, he weeps because he has offended his beloved Master, so good, so holy, and so worthy of love. He weeps because he has responded to that immense love with base ingratitude, and that is perfect contrition.

Now, don’t you have the same motive as St. Peter to detest your sins, for the sake of love, for the sake of perfect love, and for the sake of gratitude?

There’s no doubt. God’s favors are more numerous than the hairs on your head and everyone of them should make you repeat the words of  St. John: “Let us love God, because He first loved us” (1 John, 4, 19).

And how has He loved you?

“I have loved thee,” says God Himself, “with an everlasting love, I have had pity on thee and I have drawn thee to me.” (Jer. 31, 3).

“With an everlasting love I have loved thee.”

From All eternity, before there even was a trace of you upon the earth, He cast upon you this look of love that penetrates everything, He prepared for you a soul and a body,

Heaven and Earth, with all the tenderness of a mother who prepares to welcome the child who is going to come into the world.  It is God who has given you life and health; it is He who gives you the good things of nature every day.

This idea was sufficient for the pagans themselves to bring them to the knowledge and the perfect love of God. It should bring you there all the more—you, a Christian, who possess another testimony of love and goodness: the love and the supernatural goodness of God for you, “for,” says He, “I have had pity on you.” You were condemned like all men as a result of original sin: God sent His only Son Who became your Savior and redeemed you with His blood by dying on the cross.

It was of you that He lovingly thought in His agony in the Garden of Olives, when He shed His blood under the whips and the thorns, when He followed, carrying His Cross, the long and painful path of Calvary; when, nailed upon the cross, he expired in the midst of ghastly torments, it was of you that He thought, with a tender love, as if you had been the only person in the world. What shall we make of that? “Let us love God, because He loved us first.”

Furthermore, God drew you to Himself by Baptism, which is the first and chief grace of life, and by the Church, in whose bosom you were then incorporated. How many men have been able to attain the true faith only through the strength of effort and sufferings! But to you, God gave it to you from the cradle, out of pure love. He drew you to Himself, He draws you every day by means of the sacraments and by numberless graces, interior and exterior, with which he showers you. You are, so to speak, submerged in an ocean, the ocean of goodness and divine love, and He wishes again to crown all these graces by placing you near Him and making you eternally happy. What will you give Him for such love? Don’t you think that you should respond

in kind? Then let’s love our God, since He loved us first.

Now to the point: How have you responded to the love of a God so lovable and so good? Without a doubt, by your ingratitude and by your sins. But do you repent of this ingratitude? Yes, you do, and you burn with a desire to make amends for it by a limitless love. Well, then, if that’s the case, you have at this moment perfect contrition, that which is based on the love of God and what is called contrition of love or of charity.

But in contrition of charity itself, there is a degree, more elevated yet, that consists in purely loving God, because He is infinitely glorious, infinitely perfect, and worthy of being loved, the abstraction of His mercy for us. Let’s make a comparison. There are, in the firmament, a number of stars so distant from us that we cannot see them, and yet they are all as large and as bright as the Sun that so freely gives us warmth and life. Likewise, suppose that man had never been in possession of this eternal star that is God’s love; suppose that God had created neither the world nor any creature: He would be no less great, no less beautiful, no less glorious, no less worthy of being loved, for He is Himself and in regard to Himself the greatest good, the most perfect, and the most lovable.

Such is the sense of the act of contrition: I am heartily sorry…because You are infinitely lovable and You deplore sin. Think for a moment and consider God’s love; especially meditate on the Savior’s bitter sufferings. In this light, you’ll easily understand, and your insight will pierce your heart through.

In the next chapter, then, you’ll find a practical step-by-step guide to achieving perfect contrition.

II

How do you obtain perfect contrition?

First, you must recall that perfect contrition is a grace, and a great grace, from the mercy of God. You must ask it of Him earnestly. Ask it of Him, not only at the moment when you wish to make an act of contrition, but frequently. It should be the object of our most ardent desires. Therefore, repeat often, “My God, grant me perfect contrition for all my sins.” Our Lord will grant your prayer, if He sees in you a sincere desire to please Him.

That said, here’s how you will easily be able to make a perfect act of contrition. Kneel at the foot of a crucifix, either at church or in your room, where you imagine yourself in the presence of Jesus Crucified, and, in the sight of His wounds, meditate with devotion for a few moments and say to yourself: “Who, then, is nailed on this cross? It is Jesus, my God and my Savior. What does He suffer? His mangled body covered with wounds shows the ghastly torments. His soul is soaked with pains and insults. Why does He suffer? For men’s sins and also for my own. In the midst of His bitterness, He remembers me, He suffers for me, He wishes to wipe away my sins.”  Stop there, while the ever warm blood of your sweet Savior falls drop by drop upon your soul. Ask yourself how you responded to your lovable Savior’s tokens of tenderness. Recall your sins and, forgetting for a moment Heaven and Hell, repent especially because they are your sins that have reduced your Savior to such a state. Promise Him to no longer nail Him to the cross with new sin, and lastly, recite, slowly and with fervor, an act of contrition.

The act of contrition may be expressed in many ways, according to the feelings of each penitent. Below is one of the most well known:

My Lord and my God, I repent from the depth of my heart of all the sins of my life because by them I have earned the punishments of Thy justice, in this life and for eternity; because I have answered Thy favors with my ingratitude; but especially because by them I have offended Thee, Who art infinitely good and infinitely worthy of being loved. I make a firm purpose to amend my ways and to sin no more. Grant me the grace to be faithful to my purpose. Amen.

In this prayer, we express three motives of contrition: the first is imperfect contrition and the next two are perfect contrition. Nothing prevents us, in effect, from linking these two kinds of contrition: the first leads us so much the more easily to the second.

  1. “Because by them I have earned etc…” This pertains to imperfect contrition.
  1. “because I have answered Thy favors etc…” This is a motive that approaches perfect contrition and is confused with it, For if I have the sincere regret of having answered God’s love by my ingratitude and my sins, I would necessarily wish to make amends for this ingratitude by my love. Now, he who, by a motive of love, regrets having offended his benefactor, truly possesses perfect contrition, or contrition of charity.
  1. “But especially because by them I have offended Thee etc.” Reread the last two paragraphs of the previous page and you will understand the meaning of these words: there you will see, clearly expressed, love and perfect contrition. To obtain it more easily, add the following words to your act of contrition, either orally or from your heart:

And especially because, by my sins I have offended Thee, Who art infinitely good and infinitely worthy of being loved, Who art my Savior, and Who died upon the cross for my sins.

Afterwards comes your resolve: “I make a firm purpose.”

But you will say, this is easy for someone else, but for me it’s something too lofty and almost impossible. Do you think this objection is valid? Don’t believe it for even an instant.

III

Is it difficult to make a perfect act of contrition?

Without a doubt, the act of perfect contrition is more difficult than the act of imperfect contrition required for confession. However, there is no one who, with God’s grace, cannot obtain perfect contrition, as long as he desires it sincerely. Contrition is in the will and not in the sentiment. It is sufficient for us to repent for one of the above-mentioned motives, i.e., because we love God above everything. It is there where our contrition consists, and not in its intensity or in its duration. Often people confuse perfect contrition with another, much higher contrition. Perfect contrition has its degrees; it does not cease being perfect contrition even though it does not reach the sublimity and constancy of St. Peter, of the Magdalene, or of St. Aloysius Gonzaga or other saints. Certainly, that kind is the most desirable, but it is not necessary: a lower degree suffices to pardon sins, as long as the contrition is for a motive of love of God. Moreover—and this is a very proper consideration to give us encouragement—before the time of our Lord, in the ancient law perfect contrition was, for 4,000 years, the only means of obtaining forgiveness of sins. Again in our times, there exists no other form of forgiveness for thousands of pagans and heretics. Now, it is true that God does not wish the death of the sinner. He cannot wish to impose a perfect contrition impossible to attain. Contrition must, on the contrary, be within the range of all men. Well,  then,  if  so  many  unfortunates  who live and die can obtain this perfect contrition far from (though through no fault of their own) the stream of grace and the Catholic Church, is perfect contrition so difficult for you who have the good fortune of being Christian and Catholic, who are the object of much greater graces and who are better taught than these poor infidels?

I’ll go even further. Often, without your suspecting it, you have perfect contrition. For instance, when you devoutly hear Holy Mass, when you make with fervor the Stations of the Cross, when you meditate with devotion in front of an image of Jesus Crucified or of His divine Heart.

Some words often suffice to express the most ardent love and the sincerest contrition. Some of these are, for example, the ejaculatory prayers “My God and my all,” “My Jesus, mercy,” “My God, I love Thee above all things,” “My God, have pity upon me, a poor sinner,” “My Jesus, I love Thee.”

What effects does perfect contrition produce?

Some truly admirable effects! For the sinner, thanks to perfect contrition, he immediately receives forgiveness for each of his faults even before making his confession. Nevertheless, he must make a resolution to confess himself at an opportune time; of course, this resolution is included in perfect contrition. Every time he makes a perfect act of contrition, the pains of Hell are immediately remitted, he recovers all his past merits, and he turns from being an enemy of God to being His son by adoption and coheir to heaven.

For the just man, perfect contrition enlarges and strengthens the state of grace. It erases the venial sins he has detested, obtains for him remission of the punishments for his sins, and  increases  in him the  true and sound love of God. Here are the marvelous effects of divine mercy in the soul of the Christian owing to perfect contrition. Perhaps, they may appear unbelievable to you. Undoubtedly, you think, in danger of death, we should to ask for contrition; but is it credible that at every moment perfect contrition produces such effects? Is this teaching concerning perfect contrition well founded?

I answer you that it is as solid as the rock upon which the Church is built and as certain as the very word of God.

At the Council of Trent, the Church, in explaining the chief truths disputed by the heretics, declares (Session xiv, Chap. 4) that perfect contrition, that which proceeds from the love of God, justifies man and reconciles him to God, even before the reception of the sacrament of penance. Now, the Council nowhere says that this is only in danger of death. Therefore, perfect contrition at all times produces this effect. Besides, the Church relies on the words of Jesus: “If anyone love me”—and no one can truly love Him without perfect contrition— “…my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our abode in him” (St. John 14, 23). God cannot live in a soul stained by sin. Perfect contrition, or the contrition of charity, accordingly wipes away sins.

Such has always been the teaching of the Church, the holy Fathers, and Her Doctors. Michel de Baye was been condemned for having maintained the contrary. In fact, if, as we said just now, perfect contrition must have brought forth such admirable effects in the Old Testament, in the era of the law of fear, it will all the more produce these effects in the New Testament, where the law of love reigns.

But then, someone will say, if perfect contrition wipes away sin, what good is it to confess sins afterwards?

It’s true that perfect contrition produces the same effects as confession, but it doesn’t produce them independently of the sacrament of penance, since perfect contrition precisely supposes a firm purpose to confess the same sins that it has just pardoned. For confession of all sins, at least the mortal ones, is a law of Jesus Christ, and a law that cannot change. Doubtlessly, the sins pardoned by perfect contrition are always forgiven. If, after the act of contrition, you should not wish to confess, the sins will not return, but you would lose the new state of grace because you would fail in the obligation to make your confession.

Is it necessary to confess one’s sins as soon as possible after the act of contrition?

Very strictly speaking, that’s not necessary, but I strongly urge you to do so. You’ll thus be all the more sure of being forgiven and you’ll obtain, at the same time, the precious graces attached to the sacrament of penance, those that are called the sacramental graces.

Perhaps, now, you’ll be tempted to say to yourself: “If it’s easy to obtain the remission of sins through perfect contrition, I don’t have to trouble myself about confession. I’ll sin without scruple, and I’ll be discharged of the debt of sin by an act of perfect contrition!” Anyone who would think in such a way will not have even a shadow of perfect contrition. He would not love God above everything, since he wouldn’t have the serious desire to break with sin and change his life, the condition required equally by confession and perfect contrition. He could well fool himself, but he could never fool God. He who truly has perfect contrition is entirely resolved to renounce mortal sin. He will cleanse himself as soon as possible in the sacrament of penance,  and,  by his  good will  aided by the grace of God, he will keep himself from sin, and he will strengthen himself more and more in the happy state as a child of God.

Perfect contrition is a great aid for those who loyally and sincerely wish to recover and preserve the state of grace, and especially for those who fall into sin from habit, i.e., who, in spite of their good will, lapse again from time to time owing to their bad habits and their own weakness. It is, however, entirely different for those who use perfect contrition as a means of sinning with impunity: they turn the divine remedy of perfect repentance into a hellish poison.

Don’t be among the latter, and don’t allow so precious a grace to ill serve you.

Why is perfect contrition so important and sometimes even necessary?

It’s important throughout our life and at the moment of our death.

First and foremost, it’s important during our life. What, in reality, is more important than grace? It beautifies our soul; it penetrates it and transforms it into a creature of a new order by making it a child of God and heir to Heaven. It renders all the works and sufferings of the Christian worthy of eternal life, it is the magic wand that changes all into gold — into the gold of supernatural merits. What, on the contrary, is sadder than a Christian in the state of sin? All his sufferings, all his works, all his prayers remain barren, without any merit for Heaven.  He’s an enemy of God, and if he dies, he goes to Hell.

The state of grace, therefore, is of capital importance and necessary to the Christian.

If you have lost grace, you can recover it in two ways:

  1. By confession.
  1. By perfect contrition.

Confession is the ordinary means, but since it’s not always available, God has given us an extraordinary means: perfect contrition.

Let’s suppose that one day you have the misfortune to commit a mortal sin. After the worries of the day, in the quiet of the night your conscience awakens; it condemns you forcefully, and you’re in agony. What are you to do? Well, then, God puts in your hands the golden key, which will open for you the gates of Heaven. Repent of your sins, for a motive of the love of God. Make a firm purpose to offend Him no more and to make your confession as soon as you can, and sleep peacefully: you are at peace with God Almighty.

On the contrary, how much we must pity the Christian who ignores the practice of perfect contrition. He goes to bed and rises in the state of mortal sin. He lives in this manner two, three, four or more months, from year to year, perhaps. A sad state, to live almost always in mortal sin, as an enemy of God, without any merit for Heaven and in danger of eternal damnation.

Another benefit: if, before receiving a sacrament, say, confirmation or matrimony, for instance, you recall an unpardoned sin, perfect contrition allows you to receive this sacrament worthily. Only for communion is confession required.

Even for a Christian in a state of grace, the frequent practice of perfect contrition is very useful. First, we’re never certain of being in a state of grace. Now, every act of perfect contrition increases the certainty. It often occurs to us to wonder whether we have given in to temptation. Such doubts delay and discourage the  soul on  the path  of virtue. What,  then, are we to do? Scrutinize ourselves if we have or have not consented to temptation? Scrutiny would be fruitless. Make an act of perfect contrition and be at ease.

Even supposing that we possess certainty of being in a state of grace, perfect contrition will still be very useful to us. Each act of perfect contrition increases grace, and an ounce of grace is worth more than all the treasures in the world. Each act of perfect contrition erases the venial sins that disfigure the soul; thus the soul grows more and more beautiful. Each act of perfect contrition remits the temporal punishments due to sin. Let’s remember the words of the Savior regarding Mary Magdalene: “Many sins are forgiven her, because she hath loved much” (St. Luke 7, 47). And if this forgiveness of temporal punishments makes us appreciate and value indulgences, good works, almsgiving, charity toward God, which is the queen of the virtues, it stands in the first rank of these good works.

Lastly, with each act of perfect contrition and of love, our soul strengthens itself in good, and thus it has firm confidence of obtaining the paramount grace of final perseverance.

The practice of perfect contrition is, therefore, very important during our life, but most especially at the hour of our death and above all if we are in danger of sudden death.

One day, a large fire breaks out in a heavily populated city, and many are found dead. Among the many persons who cried out in the courtyard of a house, a twelve-year old child, on his knees, begged for the grace of contrition; then he entreated his companions to pray with him. Entirely hapless, perhaps they owed him their salvation.

Now, similar dangers threaten us at every moment and at the time when we least think about them. You can be the victim of some accident, fall out of a tree, be run over by a train or a bus; you can be taken unawares at night  by  a  fire  in  your  bedroom; you can make a misstep on a stairway or fall in the midst of your work. They carry you away, dying. They run to look for a priest, but the priest is late in coming, and the time is short. What do you do? Immediately make an act of perfect contrition. Repent out of love and gratitude to God and Jesus Christ Crucified, and you will be saved. Perfect contrition will have afforded you the key to heaven.

It’s not the case that it’s lawful for everyone to wait until the last hour in the hope of being free from every sin by means of a simple act of perfect contrition. It’s very doubtful, in fact, that perfect contrition can avail those who have misused it in order to sin. The benefits detailed are chiefly for those who have good will.

“But,” you will ask me, “will I have the time to make an act of perfect contrition?” Yes, with God’s grace. Perfect contrition does not require much time, especially if, during your life, you’ve practiced it often. It only takes an instant to make it from the depths of your soul. Besides, God’s grace is more efficacious at the moment of danger, and our mind is much more active. At death’s door, the seconds seem like hours. I speak from personal experience.

On July 20, 1886, I came very close to death. It was a matter of eight to ten seconds of pain, the time it takes to pray half an Our Father. In this very brief moment, thousands of thoughts crossed my mind. My whole life passed before me with an unimaginable speed; at the same time I thought of what was in store for me after death. All that, I repeat, happening during the short period of half an Our Father. Fortunately, my life was spared. God thus willed it so that I could write The Key to Heaven. Well, the first thing I had to do in such a danger was to make what they taught us in catechism—an act of contrition and to have recourse to God in seeking His  protection.  Truly, it  was then that I  learned to love and treasure, as is proper, perfect contrition. Afterward, I made it known and appreciated everywhere when I had the chance. What a loss that people do not better understand its importance in this last moment! Everyone rushes about, they do not understand the tears and cries, they lose their heads, they go to find the doctor or the priest, they bring fresh water and all the remedies that they secretly possess. And while the sick person is in agony, no one, perhaps, has pity on his immortal soul; no one suggests to him to secure his salvation by making an act of perfect contrition. If you find yourself in a similar situation, hasten to side of the dying person and, calmly and serenely presenting to him, if possible, the image of Jesus Crucified, with a sure and firm voice, tell him to think and to repeat from the depths of his soul what you are about to say. Then slowly and clearly recite the act of contrition even though it would appear that the sick person understands and comprehends nothing. You’ll have done a supremely good work that will earn you his eternal gratitude.

Even if you are dealing with a heretic, help him in his last moments in the same way. It’s not necessary to speak to him about confession. It’s enough to urge him to make an act of love of God and of Jesus Crucified in slowly reciting to him the act of contrition.

When should you make an act of contrition?

If you’ve carefully followed me up to this point, let me at once ask this of you: for God and your soul, every evening, don’t fail to make an act of contrition along with your prayers. Certainly, it’s not a sin to leave it out sometimes, but what I offer is good and useful advice. Don’t say that the examination of conscience and perfect contrition are good for priests and for perfect souls; don’t say, “I don’t have time. In the evening, I’m too tired!”

How much time do you need? Half an hour? Fifteen minutes?  No: A few minutes is enough. Don’t you say some prayers lying in your bed? Well, after praying, think a few moments about the faults and the sins of that day and recite slowing and fervently, at the foot of the crucifix, the act of contrition. Then you can sleep peacefully; you’ve taken leave of the God Almighty, and He has responded by forgiving your sins. Start this evening, and you won’t regret it.

If you should ever have the misfortune to commit a mortal sin, don’t remain in this state. Restore yourself by perfect contrition. Restore yourself at once or at least at your evening prayers, and, without delay, go to confession.

Finally, remember that sooner or later the hour of death will strike for you, and if, God forbid, it comes unexpectedly, you know the remedy: you know where to find the key to Heaven. Run to God immediately, and if, during your life you’ve regularly and willingly practiced the act of perfect contrition, you’ll lack neither the time nor the grace to make an act of perfect contrition, which will save you.

If you do have the time to prepare yourself, may your last action be an act of love toward God, your Creator, your Redeemer, your Savior, a sincere and perfect act of contrition for all the sins of your life. After that, throw yourself into the arms of divine mercy, and God will be a lenient judge of you.

To conclude: Read this pamphlet, and put its advice into practice. Cherish perfect contrition; practice this precious means of obtaining grace, which Providence has placed in your hands. The means are easy, and their effects are admirable—the chief and sole means of salvation in case of necessity, the source of graces throughout life and at the hour of death: in short, the true key to Heaven.

P.S. Our beloved Jesus gave St. Peter the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.  With the Contrition of Love, He gives his little children the keys to Heaven.  We become, in a sense, little “Popes”, who while not being able to bind and loose, can open the gates of Heaven by surrendering and abandoning ourselves to Divine Love.

I will preserve all lily fair.

Shall be the Milky Way of light

  ‘Mid all the starry heavenly choirs.

I must have lilies for My crown,

The Angel of the Eucharist asks what he can do to console our Lord for the ingratitude of men.

Over My suffering soul hath power.

Ah, the great thirst of My desires!

Like Seraphim beyond the skies,

What time he comes to offer Me

To work such miracle of grace,

The Angel of the Resurrection asks what will become of the poor exiled ones left on earth when the Saviour shall have ascended into heaven.

And heaven’s long bliss they then shall know,

When I shall welcome them above.

When the last hour of time appears,

My flock shall come again to Me;

APPARITION of the BLESSED VIRGIN on the Mountain of

LA SALETTE the 19th of September, 1846

The following Secret was given by Our Lady to two children, Mélanie Calvat and Maximin Giraud, on September 19, 1846, while they were tending cattle on the mountain of La Salette, France.

“On the 18th of September (1846), the eve of the Holy Apparition of the Holy Virgin, I was alone, as usual, watching over my Master’s cows. Around eleven o’clock in the morning, I saw a small boy walking towards me. I was frightened at this, for it seemed to me that everyone ought to know that I avoided all kinds of company. This boy came up to me and said:

“Little girl, I’m coming with you, I’m from Corps too”. At these words, the natural evil in me soon showed itself, and taking a few steps back, I told him: “I don’t want anybody around. I want to be alone.” But the boy followed me, saying: “Go on, let me stay with you. My Master told me to come and watch over my cows together with yours. I’m from Corps.”

I walked away from him, gesturing to him that I didn’t want anybody around, and when I was some distance away, I sat down on the grass. There, I used to talk with the little flowers of the Good Lord.

A moment later, I looked behind me, and there I found Maximin sitting close to me. Straightway he says to me: “Keep me with you. I’ll be very good.”

But the natural evil in me will not hear reason. I jump to my feet, and run a little farther off without saying a word and again I start playing with the little flowers of the Good Lord. In an instant, Maximin was there again, telling me he would be very good, that he wouldn’t talk, that he would get bored all by himself, and that his Master had sent him to be with me, etc. This time, I took pity, I gestured to him to sit down, and I kept on playing with the little flowers of the Good Lord.

It wasn’t long before Maximin broke the silence by bursting into laughter (I think he was making fun of me). I look at him and he says to me: “Let’s have some fun, let’s make up a game”. I said nothing in reply, for I was so ignorant I didn’t understand what games with other people were, always having been alone. I played with the flowers, on my own, and Maximin came right up close to me, doing nothing but laughing, telling me the flowers didn’t have ears to listen to me and that we should play together instead. But I had no liking for the game he told me to play. I started talking to him, however, and he told me that the ten days he was to spend with his Master would soon be over and then he would go home to his father in Corps etc…

While he was talking, I heard the bell of La Salette, it was the Angelus. I gestured to Maximin to lift his soul up to God. He took off his hat and was silent for a moment. Then I said: “Do you want to have dinner?” “Yes, he replied, let’s eat.” We sat down and I brought out of my bag the provisions my Master had given me. As was my habit, before breaking into my little round loaf, I made a cross with the point of my knife in the bread, and a little hole in the middle, saying: “If the devil’s in there, may he leave, and if the Good Lord is in there, may he stay!” and I rapidly covered up the little hole. Maximin burst into laughter and kicked the loaf out of my hands. It rolled down the mountainside and was lost from site. I had another piece of bread which we shared. Afterwards, we played a game. Then, realizing that Maximin must still be hungry, I pointed out a place on the mountainside covered with all kinds of berries. I urged him to go and eat some and he went straight away. He ate a few berries and brought back his hat full of them. In the evening we walked back down the mountain together and promised to come back the next day and watch over our cows together.

The next day, the 19th of September, I met Maximin on the way up. We climbed up the mountain side together. I discovered that Maximin was a very good, simple boy, and would willingly talk about what I wanted to talk about. He was also very flexible and had no fixed opinions. He was just a little curious, for, when I walked away from him, as soon as he saw I had stopped, he would run over to me to see what I was doing and hear what I was saying to the flowers of the Good Lord. And if he arrived too late, he would ask me what I had said.

Maximin told me to teach him a game. It was already late morning. I told him to gather some flowers for the “Paradise”. We set to work together. Soon we had a number of flowers of various colours. I could hear the village Angelus ringing, for the weather was fine and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Having told the Good Lord what we had learned, I said to Maximin that we ought to drive our cows on to a small plateau near the gully, where there would be stones to build the “Paradise”. We drove our cows to the selected spot and then had a small meal. Then we started collecting stones to build our little house, which comprised of a so-called ground floor which was where we were to live, and then a story above which was to be, as we called it, “Paradise.”

This story was decorated all over with different-coloured flowers, with garlands hanging from flower stalks. This “Paradise” was covered by a single large stone which we had strewn with flowers. We had also hung garlands all the way round. When we had finished, we sat and looked at the “Paradise”. We began to feel sleepy and having moved a couple of feet away, we went to sleep on the grass.

When I woke up I couldn’t see the cows, so I called Maximin and climbed up the little mound. From there I could see our cows grazing peacefully and I was on my way down, with Maximin on his way up, when all at once I saw a beautiful light shining more brightly than the sun.

“Maximin, do you see what is over there? Oh! my God!” At the same moment, I dropped the stick I was holding. Something inconceivably fantastic passed through me in that moment, and I felt myself being drawn. I felt a great respect, full of love, and my heart beat faster.

I kept my eyes firmly fixed on this light, which was static, and as if it had opened up, I caught sight of another, much more brilliant light which was moving, and in this light I saw a most beautiful lady sitting on top of our Paradise, with her head in her hands.

This beautiful Lady stood up, she coolly crossed her arms while watching us, and said to us:

Come, my children, fear not, I am here to PROCLAIM GREAT NEWS TO YOU.”

These soft and sweet words made me fly to her, and my heart desired to attach itself to her forever.

When I was up close to the Beautiful Lady, in front of her to her right, she began to speak and from her beautiful eyes tears also started to flow.

If my people do not wish to submit themselves, I am forced to let go off the hand of my Son. It is so heavy and weighs me down so much I can no longer keep hold of it.

I have suffered all of the time for the rest of you! If I do not wish my Son to abandon you, I must take it upon myself to pray for this continually. And the rest of you think little of this. In vain you will pray, in vain you will act, you will never be able to make up for the troubles I have taken over for the rest of you.

I gave you six days to work, I kept the seventh for myself, and no one wishes to grant it to me. This is what weighs down the arm of my Son so much.

Those who drive carts cannot speak without putting the name of my Son in the middle.

These are the two things which weigh down the arm of my Son so much. If the harvest is spoiled, it is only because of the rest of you. I made you see this last year with the potatoes, you took little account of this. It was quite the opposite when you found bad potatoes, you swore oaths, and you included the name of my Son. They will continue to go bad, at Christmas there will be none left.”

At this point, I was trying to interpret the word “potatoes” (pommes de terre): I thought I understood it to be “apples” (pommes). The Beautiful and Good Lady, reading my thoughts, repeated thus:

You do not understand, my children. I will tell it to you another way.

“If the harvest is spoiled, it does not seem to affect you. I made you see this last year with the potatoes. You took little account of this. It was quite the opposite when you found bad potatoes, you swore oaths, and you included the name of my Son. They will continue to go bad and at Christmas, there will be none left.

If you have corn, you must not sow it. The beasts will eat all that you sow. And all that grows will fall to dust when you thresh it. A great famine will come. Before the famine comes, children under the age of seven will begin to tremble and will die in the arms of those who hold them. The others will do penance through hunger. The nuts will go bad, the grapes will become rotten.

At this point, the Beautiful Lady, who was entrancing me, for a moment did not make herself heard. I could see, however, that she was continuing, as if speaking, to move graciously her kindly lips. At this moment, Maximin was receiving his secret. Then, turning to me, the Most Holy Virgin spoke to me and gave me a secret in French. Here is this secret in its entirety as she gave it to me:

“Mélanie, what I am going to tell you now will not always be a secret; you can publish it in 1858.

“Priests, my Son’s ministers, priests, by their evil life, by their irreverences and their impiety in celebrating the holy mysteries, love of money, love of honor and pleasures, priests have become sewers of impurity. Yes, priests call forth vengeance, and vengeance is suspended over their heads. Woe to priests, and to persons consecrated to God, who by their infidelities and their evil life are crucifying my son anew! The sins of persons consecrated to God cry to heaven and call for vengeance, and now here is vengeance at their very doors, for no longer is anyone found to beg mercy and pardon for the people; there are no more generous souls, there is now no one worthy of offering the spotless Victim to the Eternal on the worlds behalf.

“God will strike in an unparalleled manner. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth! God will exhaust His anger, and no one will be able to escape so many evils at once. The heads, the leaders of the people of God, have neglected prayer and penance, and the devil has darkened their minds; they have become those wandering stars which the ancient devil will drag with his tail to destruction. God will permit the ancient serpent to sow divisions among rulers, in all societies and in all families; both physical and moral punishments will be suffered. God will abandon men to themselves and will send chastisements one after the other for over 35 years.

“Society is on the very eve of most terrible scourges and greatest events; one must expect to be governed by a rod of iron and to drink the chalice of God’s wrath.

“Let not my Son’s Vicar, the Sovereign Pontiff Pius IX leave Rome after the year 1859; but let him be steadfast and generous, let him do battle with the weapons of faith and love; I shall be with him.

“Let him beware of Napoleon; his heart is double, and when he will want to be both Pope and emperor at the same time, God will soon withdraw from him; he is that eagle who, desiring always to rise, will fall on the sword he wanted to use to force the peoples to exalt him.

“Italy will be punished for its ambition in wanting to shake of the yoke of the Lord of lords; thus she will be handed over to war; blood will flow on all sides; Churches will be closed or desecrated; priests, religious will be driven out; they will be put to death, and to a cruel death. Many will abandon the faith, and the number of priests and religious who will separate themselves from the true religion will be great; even Bishops will be found among these persons.

“Let the Pope beware of miracle workers, for the time has come for the most astonishing wonders to take place on the earth and in the air.

“In the year 1864 Lucifer, together with a great number of devils, will be loosed from hell; little by little they will abolish the faith, and that even in persons consecrated to God; they will so blind them, that without a special grace, these persons will take on the spirit of these evil angels; a number of religious houses will lose the faith entirely and cause many souls to be damned.

“Bad books will abound over the earth, and the spirits of darkness will everywhere spread universal relaxation in everything concerning God’s service: they will have very great power over nature; there will be churches to serve these spirits. People will be transported form one place to another by these evil spirits, and even priests, because they will not have lived by the good spirit of the gospel, which is a spirit of humility, charity and zeal for the glory of God. The dead and the just will be made to rise.”

[Mélanie interpolated here: “That is to say, these dead will assume the prospect of righteous souls who once lived on earth, in order to seduce men more easily; these so-called resurrected dead, who will be nothing other than the devil under these faces, will preach another Gospel contrary to that of the true Christ Jesus, denying the existence of heaven, if these be not in fact the souls of the damned. All these souls will appear joined to their bodies.”]

“There will be extraordinary wonders every place because the true faith has been extinguished and false light illumines the world. Woe to the princes of the church who will be occupied only with piling up riches upon riches, with guarding their authority and lording with pride!

“My Son’s Vicar will have much to suffer, because for a time the Church will be handed over to great persecutions: it will be the time of darkness; the Church will undergo a frightful crisis.

“With God’s holy faith forgotten, each individual will want to direct himself and rise above his peers. Civil and ecclesiastical authority will be abolished , all order and justice will be trampled underfoot. Only murders, hatred, jealousy, lying and discord will be seen, with no love of country or family.

“The Holy Father will suffer greatly. I shall be with him till the end to receive his sacrifice.

“The wicked will make a number of attempts on his life without being able to harm him; but neither he nor his successor will see the triumph of God’s Church.

“Civil governments will all have the same objective, which will be to abolish and make every religious principle disappear, to make way for materialism, atheism, spiritism and vices of all kinds.

“In the year 1865, the abomination will be seen in the holy places; in the convents the flowers of the Church will putrefy, and the devil will establish himself as king of all hearts. Let those who are at the head of religious communities be on their guard concerning the persons they are to receive, because the devil will use all his malice to introduce into religious orders persons given to sin, for disorders and love of carnal pleasures will be widespread over the whole earth.

“France, Italy, Spain and England will be at war, blood will flow in the streets; Frenchmen will fight Frenchmen, Italian with Italian; then there will be a general war which will be appalling. For some time God will no longer remember France or Italy, because the Gospel of Jesus Christ is no longer known. The wicked will unleash all their malice; even in homes there will be killing and mutual massacres.

“With the first lightning blow of His sword, the mountains and all nature will tremble with dread, because the disorders and crimes of men are piercing the vault of the heavens. Paris will be burned and Marseilles swallowed up; a number of large cities will be shattered and swallowed by earthquakes; all will seem lost; only murders will be seen, the clash of arms and blasphemies heard. The righteous will suffer greatly; their prayers, their penances and their tears will rise to heaven and all God’s people will ask pardon and mercy and will ask my help and intercession. Then Jesus Christ, by an act of His justice and His great mercy toward the righteous, will command His angels to put all His enemies to death. At one blow the persecutors of the Church of Jesus Christ and all men given to sin will perish, and the earth will become like a desert.

“Then there will be peace, the reconciliation of God with men; Jesus Christ will be served, adored and glorified; charity will flourish everywhere. The new kings will be the right arm of Holy Church, which will be strong, humble, pious, poor, zealous and imitative of the virtues of Jesus Christ. The Gospel will be preached everywhere, and men will make great strides in the faith, because there will be unity among Jesus Christ’s workers and men will live in the fear of God.

“This peace among men will not last long: 25 years of abundant harvests will make them forget that the sins of men are the cause of all the woes which happen on earth.

“A precursor of the Antichrist, with his troops drawn from many nations, will wage war against the true Christ, sole Savior of the world; e will shed much blood and will seek to annihilate the cult of God so as to be regarded as a god.

“The earth will be struck with plagues of all kinds;” [Mélanie added here: “Besides pestilence and famine, which will be widespread”] “there will be wars up to the last war, which will then be waged by the ten kings of the Antichrist, kings who will all have a common design and will be the sole rulers of the world. Before this happens, there will be a sort of false peace in the world; people will think only of amusing themselves; the wicked will indulge in all kinds of sin; but the children of Holy Church, children of the true faith, my true imitators, will grow in the love of God and in the virtues dearest to me. Happy the humble souls lead by the Holy Ghost! I shall battle along with them until they reach the fullness of maturity.

“Nature begs vengeance on account of men, and she shudders with dread, awaiting what must happen to the crime-stained earth.

“Tremble, earth, and you who profess to serve Jesus Christ, while interiorly you adore yourselves, tremble; for God will hand you over to His enemy, because the holy places are in a state of corruption; many convents are no longer houses of God, but pastures for Asmodeus and his own.

“It will be at this time that the Antichrist will be born of a Hebrew nun, a false virgin who will be in communication with the ancient serpent, master of impurity; his father will be a bishop (Ev.). [We spell out the word “bishop” here. In the French text appear only the first two letters of évèque, the French word for bishop, but there is little doubt that this is the word they stand for, because in Mélanie’s first draft of the message the whole word is spelled out.]

“At birth he will vomit blasphemies, he will have teeth; in a word, this will be the devil incarnate; he will utter terrifying cries, he will work wonders, he will live only on impurities. He will have brothers who, although not incarnate devils like himself, will be children of evil; at the age of twelve, they will be noted for the valiant victories they will win; soon they will each be at the head of armies, assisted by legions from hell.

“I address a pressing appeal to the earth: I call upon the true disciples of the God living and reigning in the heavens; I call upon the true imitators of Christ made man, the one true Savior of men; I call upon my children, my true devotees, those who have given themselves o me so that I may lead them to my Divine Son, those whom I bear as it were in my arms, those who have lived in my spirit; finally, I call upon the Apostles of the Latter Times, the faithful disciples of Jesus Christ who have lived in contempt of the world and of themselves, in poverty and humility, in contempt and silence, in prayer and mortification, in chastity and in union with God, in suffering, and unknown to the world. It is time for them to emerge and come enlighten the earth. Go, show yourselves to be my dear children; I am with you and in you, provided your faith is the light enlightening you in these evil times. “The Church will be eclipsed, the world will be in consternation. But there are Enoch and Elias, they will preach with the power of God, and men of good will will believe in God, and many souls will be comforted; they will make great progress by virtue of the Holy Ghost and will condemn the diabolical errors of the Antichrist.

“Woe to the inhabitants of the earth. There will be bloody wars, and famines; plagues and contagious diseases; there will be frightful showers of animals; thunders which will demolish cities; earthquakes which will engulf countries; voices will be heard in the air; men will beat their heads against the walls; they will call on death, yet death will constitute their torment; blood will flow on all sides. Who could overcome, if God doesn’t shorten the time of trial? At the blood, tears and prayers of the righteous, God will relent; Enoch and Elias will be put to death; pagan Rome will disappear; the fire of Heaven will fall and consume three cities; the whole universe will be struck with terror, and many will allow themselves to be seduced because they didn’t adore the true Christ living in their midst. In pride he will rise skyward to go up to Heaven; he will be stifled by the breath of St. Michael the Archangel. He will fall and the earth -which for three days will be in constant change- will open its fiery bosom; he will be plunged forever with all his followers into hell’s eternal chasms. Then water and fire will purify the earth and consume all the works of men’s pride, and everything will be renewed; God will be served and glorified.”

Come near, my children, be not afraid; I am here to tell you great news. If my people will not submit, I shall be forced to let fall the arm of my Son. It is so strong, so heavy, that I can no longer withhold it. For how long a time do I suffer for you! However much you pray, however much you do, you will never recompense the pains I have taken for you.

“Six days I have given you to labor, the seventh I had kept for myself; and they will not give it to me.” It is this which makes the arm of my Son so heavy. Those who drive the carts cannot swear without introducing the name of my Son. These are the two things which makes the arm of my Son so heavy.

If the harvest is spoilt, it is all on your account. I gave you warning last year with the potatoes (pommes de terre) but you did not heed it. On the contrary, when you found the potatoes spoilt, you swore, you took the name of my Son in vain. They will continue to decay, so that by Christmas there will be none left.

Ah, my children, do you not understand? Well, wait, I shall say it otherwise.

If you have wheat, it is no good to sow it; all you sow the insects will eat, and what comes up will fall into dust when you thresh it. There will come a great famine. Before the famine comes, the children under seven years of age will be seized with trembling and will die in the hands of those who hold them; the others will do penance by the famine. The walnuts will become bad, and the grapes will rot.

If they are converted, the stones and rocks will change into mounds of wheat, and the potatoes will be self-sown in the land.

Do you say your prayers well, my children?

Ah, my children, you must be sure to say them well morning and evening. When you cannot do better, say at least an Our Father and a Hail Mary. When you have time, say more.

There are none who go to Mass except a few aged women. The rest work on Sunday all summer; then in the winter, when they know not what to do, they go to Mass only to mock at religion. During Lent, they go to the meat-market like dogs. Have you never seen wheat that is spoilt, my children?

I do not know if it is the Blessed Virgin or another person. As for me, I believe today that it is the Blessed Virgin. Here is what this Lady said to me:
“If my people continue, what I will say to you will arrive earlier, if it changes a little, it will be a little later.
France has corrupted the universe, one day it will be punished. The faith will die out in France: three quarters of France will not practice religion anymore, or almost no more, the other part will practice it without really practicing it. Then, after [that], nations will convert, the faith will be rekindled everywhere. A great country, now Protestant, in the north of Europe, will be converted; by the support of this country all the other nations of the world will be converted.
Before all that arrives, great disorders will arrive, in the Church, and everywhere. Then, after [that], our Holy Father the Pope will be persecuted. His successor will be a pontiff that nobody expects.
Then, after [that], a great peace will come, but it will not last a long time. A monster will come to disturb it.
All that I tell you here will arrive in the other century, at the latest in the year two thousand.”

The time of the God’s wrath has arrived!
If, when you say to the people what I have said to you so far, and what I will still ask you to say, if, after that, they do not convert, (if they do not do penance, and they do not cease working on Sunday, and if they continue to blaspheme the Holy Name of God), in a word, if the face of the earth does not change, God will be avenged against ungrateful people and the slaves of the demon.
My Son will make his power manifest! Paris, a city soiled by all kinds of crimes, will perish forever. Marseilles too will be destroyed in a little time. When these things happen, the disorder will be complete on the earth, the world will be given up to its impious passions.
The pope will be persecuted from all sides, they will shoot at him, they will want to put him to death, but no one will be able to do it, the Vicar of God will triumph again this time.
The priests and the Sisters, and the true servants of my Son will be persecuted, and many will die for the faith of Jesus-Christ.
A famine will reign at the same time.
After all these calamities have arrived, many will recognize the hand of God on them. They will convert, and do penance for their sins.

[Among] God’s ministers, and the Spouses of Jesus-Christ, there will be some who will go astray, and that will be the most terrible.
Lastly, hell will reign on earth. It will be then that the Antichrist will be born of a Sister, but woe to her! Many will believe in him, because he will claim to have come from heaven, woe to those who will believe in him!
That time is not far away, twice 50 years will not go by.

Wear The Brown Scapular As A Sign of Consecration To The Immaculate Heart Of Mary

The GREATEST PRIVILEGE is REAL and it is OURS!

“Heaven and Hell are locked in mortal combat and the earth shakes from the shock of the encounter; but no one feels it, no one sees it, no one hears it… no one cares!  The salvation of my soul is the most imperative and most urgent objective of my life on earth.  It is the greatest and grandest occupation that I can engage in.  In fact, I am here for no other purpose.”

The Scapular was given to St. Simon Stock, Prior of the Carmelite Order in England, in the year 1251.  On 16th July, Our Lady held out the Brown Scapular to St. Simon Stock and promised, ” Whoever dies piously wearing this Scapular will not suffer eternal flames”.  Through a Papal Bull on 3rd March 1322, the Sabbatine Privilege was given to the Church and this great Privilege has been confirmed by nine subsequent Popes.  The Brown Scapular is the Sacramental of the Church; it is a gift from Heaven and a symbol of salvation~ for a true Child of Mary is never lost!  Those clothed in her Garment of Grace will be protected and sanctified.  It is a safeguard in danger, whether physical or moral; it invites its wearer to penance and purity while shielding him from Satan and sin!

The Brown Scapular marks the militia of the Immaculate One.  Before God’s holy angels, it designates those who wear it as servants and slaves of Creation’s Queen, as specially beloved sons and daughters of the sun-robbed Virgin who has crushed the serpent’s head.  To serve the Mother of God is the highest privilege and, truly, our pledge of eternal peace.

The Brown Scapular is the garment of Mary Immaculate and, as such, it is a constant call to modesty in dress and conduct; a silent protest against present day permissiveness and a hidden appeal to reparation for the insolent nakedness of proud neo-paganism!  The Brown Scapular is much like a miniature hair-shirt and a mild reminder of our need for constant mortification.

The Brown Scapular is like swaddling clothes in which Our Heavenly Mother wraps her spiritual infants to protect them from the coldness of sin, to adorn them with the beauty of virtue and to warm them with God’s Love.  No matter how advanced we may be in years or learning or social standing, we are all but infants in virtue, helpless as babes in the woods of this bleak world.  We stand in dire need of our Mother’s constant care.

The Brown Scapular is a vital part of the Fatima message.  Sr. Lucia told us we cannot separate the Rosary and the Scapular; both are essential to our life of grace in bringing about the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and subsequent Reign of Christ the King.

Requirements of the Sabbatine Privilege:
  1. Wear the Scapular.
  2. Observe Chastity according to your state in life.
  3. Pray daily the Little Office of Our Lady OR Observe the fasts of the church together with abstaining from meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays OR substitute the Rosary with permission of a confessor OR substitute some other good work with the permission of a confessor.

Yet, how little attention it is given in the world.  As one wise man puts it, “For a small reward people will undertake long journeys, but for life everlasting they will scarcely lift their feet from the ground.”

Even more so, the precious Savior of the world dwells in all the sacred tabernacles in all the Catholic Churches in the world yet people won’t stay with Him for a few seconds.  Yet they’ll wait hours, sleeping outside in the middle of the night to obtain another iphone.  The Immortal King of the Ages is present in this world, but few make an effort to think of Him, let alone speak to Him and visit Him.  Why is that?

“The fool said in his heart: There is no God.”(Psalm 52:1)  Yet, even the fool knows that this is not true, because the law of love is written on his heart.  How can one say that there is no God if His law is written on our hearts?  Because modern society, the modern world, and modern man has been thoroughly brainwashed, deceived, and manipulated.  Modern man has been told the lie that the everlasting God, Creator of life and of the universe, does not exist and even that a finite universe created itself.  Modern man has been told that in relation to his origin in regards to the natural world, his origin comes not from Adam and Eve, but from “uncreated” natural life.  Indeed, the human person, with a soul, will, and intellect greater than any other created creature, is consistently referred to in corrupted science as an animal, an ape even.  Modern man has been told the lie that religion is opium for the masses, that only unintelligent, stupid, ignorant, and gullible people believe in “fairytales” as the modern man is often told.  Modern man is told the lie that morality, the truth that right and wrong, good and evil exist, is relative; that truth itself is subject to the changes and circumstances that occur in life.  Modern man is told the lie that the State and the Church should be separated.  This is false.  God should be glorified and adored not only by the Church, but by the State, in Whom the State derives their authority from.  God is to be publicly and privately adored both by individuals and society at large due to His infinite sweetness;  Man, both modern and ancient, is ever dependent upon God, whether He realizes it or not or acknowledges it or not.  Modern man will take up any cause but God’s cause.  He will listen to anyone but those who promote God’s will.  Modern man will be open to the traditions of men and yet will accuse those who promote God’s law of love as promoting “the traditions of men”.  Modern man has become open to anyone and anything but to God and His love.  Modern man will hear everything and anything but the Truth and then people will have the audacity to complain that people are not honest with them.

Can you handle the Truth?  Can you handle that there is One God in Three Divine Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who created the whole world out of nothing? Can you handle that God Incarnated Himself as a Man in the Person of Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity by the Power of the Holy Spirit through the Most Holy Blessed Virgin Mary, who was a Virgin before, during, and after the Birth of Jesus?  Can you handle that Jesus Christ lived on earth, suffered, was Crucified, died and was buried?  Can you handle that Christ descended into Hell in order to save souls who died before His first coming onto earth?  Can you handle that He rose from the dead, ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the God the Father Almighty, Who will come to judge the living and the dead?  Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, which Christ founded, the communion of Saints, which consists of the Church Triumphant, the Church Militant, and the Church Suffering, the forgiveness of sins by Christ, specifically through His Sacrament of Divine Mercy, Confession, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting in Heaven?  Even more so, can you handle that God exists?  Can you handle that God knows you?  Can you handle that God loves you?

For some, the last question may touch their conscience, yet it may also make one reluctant to change.  But why?  You are so willing to change for others.  Why are you not willing to change for God, Who loves you more than you can ever imagine and who desires for you to be with Him forever in Heaven?  For those who struggle with the fact that God exists and that He loves you, I highly recommend that you go to Eucharistic Adoration and spend even five minutes with the Blessed Sacrament and you’ll see for yourself, if you open your mind and heart to the Divine Lover.

Something strange and unsettling is happening in America.  A fiercely militant openly aggressive kind of godlessness is on the rise in the very country renowned the world over for its official motto: IN GOD, WE TRUST.  A hostile denial of God’s existence is spreading steadily across this God-fearing nation, a nation with a Declaration of Independence that solemnly proclaims belief in God:

” WE HOLD THESE TRUTHS TO BE SELF-EVIDENT, THAT ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL, THAT ALL ARE ENDOWED BY THEIR CREATOR WITH CERTAIN UNALIENABLE RIGHTS, THAT AMONG THESE ARE LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.”

The rising tide of militant atheism is sweeping rapidly across not just the United States but the entire West.  It believes God to be our primary enemy and that belief in Him is to be ruthlessly eradicated wherever it may be found.  Anti-God propaganda forces its way into public consciousness via the internet, movies, billboards, and an avalanche of books.  Unfortunately, most Christians have been caught completely off-guard, flatfooted and woefully unprepared to counter this atheist onslaught.  From kindergarten through the university, in textbooks, education, research, museums, magazines, scientific programming for television, movies, music, and other media, EVERYWHERE, atheists espouse the naturalistic worldview with religious fervor.  That God does not exist is simply presupposed, continually implied, insinuated, suggested, and understood.

They say, NATURALISM IS TRUE, THEREFORE THERE IS NO GOD. Naturalism and Evolution present a world that is purely natural and man is essentially an accident, a world and life which have no ultimate meaning, death being the end of all things.  Neither has been demonstrated to be true.  This is what our children are being taught in our schools and universities.  In the name of Naturalism and Evolution, everything has changed.  Marriage, family, and human sexuality are viewed through the lens of evolutionary biology, sociology, and psychology.  We are all free now to decide what is right and what is wrong.  The denial of God’s existence leads to the complete disintegration of morality, the meaning of life, human dignity, and the possibility of knowledge itself.  Materialism and Naturalism are two words that describe the same worldview.  In principle, nothing exists beyond the scope of scientific explanation.

Morality is not a minor part of our experience.  It is at the very heart of it.  The implication is that right and wrong have no real existence.  All is relative, subjective and immaterial.  Man is an animal evolving from a beast to what is called the SUPERMAN, a race of men and women unchained from the shackles of religion, belief in God and a moral code, using his own intelligence and will to create a world of his own choice.  Christianity must be destroyed to make way for this race of superman who rise against Christian superstition.  For them, God is dead; no God means no right or wrong.  This philosophy was instrumental in propelling Europe, in particular, into an era of violence and brutality, hitherto never experienced.  If God does not exist, everything is permissible.  We might even catch ourselves expressing support of this theory.  If an all-good, all-powerful and all-loving God does exist, why does He allow evil to exist?  This is a classic argument for atheism.  I have heard Catholics use it.  In conscience, we kill unborn unwanted children, saying it does not have an adverse effect on others and claim that it helps us.

Sexual liberation abounds supported by the idea that it is between mutually consenting adults.  Atheists claim that there is no harm done when human beings behave like animals!  Do whatever you desire, satisfy your appetites, addictions and fetishes.  Right?  WRONG!

Atheism destroys the possibility of knowledge.  If the atheist wants to use ideas, reason and logic to argue against God’s existence, he must first borrow these weapons from the theistic worldview that can account for them and make use of them.  In other words, He must first accept God’s existence – then, if he likes, he can try to disprove it.  He claims that human life has no intrinsic, transcendent value.  This is why atheism gains ascendancy in the West where there is a concomitant rise in barbaric, inhuman practices such as abortion, fetal stem research, cloning, infanticide, and euthanasia.  Society is in a death spiral into darkness, despair and nihilism propelled by naturalism.  It is the death knell of modern man’s acknowledgement of and respect for objective truth, transcendent values, natural law, and a God-given code of morality.  It is no wonder so many young people are mixed up.  They have no sense of self-worth, they are not created by God and they have no ultimate purpose.  This is having dire effects on our whole culture.  Atheism’s situational ethics and moral relativism is a sure-fire prescription for wiping out a society, indeed, a civilization!  Once the protective seawall of traditional values and theistic morality is breached the churning tsunami of human pathologies, greed, lust and violence come rushing in.  When the atheist worldview claws its way to ascendance in a given culture, sweeping away all restraints of religion, morality, and human rights, we see the rise of murderous totalitarian regimes.  History shows ghastly consistency when this is followed to its logical conclusion.  The atheist moral-ethical theory always terminates at the same place: the entrance to Auschwitz!

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…”(Gen. 1:1)

An infinite personal God exists and created all things.  We are not merely bodies but embodied souls, spirits made in God’s very image and likeness, to be His sons and daughters, intended to share eternally in all that He possesses.  As God’s children, we have meaning and purpose that extend far beyond the few years we may have to live in this world.  While here, we live in our Father’s Love and in accordance with the Moral Laws He has written on our very hearts and has revealed to us through His Son, Jesus Christ.  Every facet of creation, if understood and interpreted correctly, demonstrates the existence of the God Who created all things.  God’s character provides the source for morality as well as the standard for moral law in the universe He created.  RIGHT and WRONG are not simply words we use to express our own personal preferences: God has written these fundamental Moral Laws on our very souls.  “Being made in the image and likeness of God, the human individual possesses the dignity of a person, who is not just something, but someone.  He is capable of self-knowledge, of self-possession and of freely giving himself and entering into communion with other persons.  He is called by Grace to a Covenant with his Creator, to offer Him a response of faith and love that no other creature can give in his stead.” Catechism of the Catholic Church # 357.

If God exists and He designed human sexuality, to be expressed and find its meaning and fulfillment in the loving commitment of marriage, family and a stable society, then unbridled sexual activity is what Christianity has understood for the past two thousand years: a destructive activity that attacks human dignity and, in the end, inflicts profound and lasting emotional, spiritual and physical wounds and scars.  Everyone is hurt by sexual promiscuity or any other immoral activities which might be considered entirely PRIVATE because God made them for something so much higher and better.  Man degrades himself when he fails to pursue his higher calling.  Our inalienable rights are God-given, true and valid, and they exist, regardless of whatever anyone may say and whether or not the State acknowledges them.  They are rights no power on earth can rightfully take away, because no power on earth can grant them. Only God can.  Throughout history, human beings have believed in God and longed for Eternity.  God created human beings in His own image and likeness, for the purpose to know love and serve Him in this life, and to be happy with Him in the life to come.

God’s Law, His Life and His Truth will win, whether we win or lose, because goodness is self-conversing.  Therefore, if we remain with Him, victory will be ours, though at any moment, it may look like defeat is upon us.  The Cross appeared to be defeat too, but it was the condition for God’s greatest victory!  The condition of triumph is oneness with God.  Vitally important is an all-out moral effort, involving a return to the Christian concept of family life, the acceptance of a system of law grounded on the authority of God and a system of education based on prayer and the love of God!

P.S.: Many Catholics have been deceived into thinking that evolution is true. Evolution is 100% false.  The truth of Creation is that God created everything out of nothing.  He created the heavens, the earth,  the sun, the moon, the stars, the sky, the waters, animals, plants, and human beings, who are, as this article consistently tells us, created in His image and likeness.  Therefore, the human race comes from Adam and Eve, who God created, not from any other creature.

How misunderstood and maligned is the Gift of Faith in our day!  Some say, it is a blind acceptance of what we cannot see or a belief in what is contrary to reason.  The world has steadily grown away from Faith ever since the dawn of enlightenment, the so-called Reformation.  Reason is our god and guides all our motives and actions.  People often refer to the Dark Ages or Middle Ages with ridicule- a day in which Faith reigned universally!  Today, we have a flood of hatred, sin, and bloodshed in the world; the good suffer and evil prosper.

The tendency to be broadly tolerant is a dangerous threat to the Church Militant.  Liberalism is gnawing at the Catholic spirit.  Some adopt the attitude that ‘all roads, however diverse, lead to Heaven; believe what you choose, God will abide!’  Private opinion may be fine so long as it does not tamper with truth, justice, and morals.

There is no possibility for world betterment until Faith once more takes root in men’s hearts:

People, today, do not know themselves because they do not know God.  They do not know the hope and peace of prayer.  They have faith in nothing, because they have no faith in God.  Faith is absolutely necessary to lead a good life and knowledge is the beginning of faith.  The final substitute we have for God in this wild world of ours is the gospel of liberty.  Americans, led by the intelligentsia, have espoused democracy as their religion.  But God commanded otherwise!  In His abundant providence, He decreed that man was to be saved, not as an individual but upon membership in His Church.  It was His will that no man should come to Him, save through His Church.

A man who loses his Faith is like a building completely demolished by an earthquake.  There are only two categories of men who can truly call themselves reasonable: Those who serve God with their whole heart and soul because they know Him by Faith; and those who seek Him with their whole heart and soul because they know Him not.

If humanity needs anything today, it is TRUTH, not theory, not hope, not duplicity but ABSOLUTE TRUTH.  This is the crime that festers within the four walls of our present day universities and spreads through our public school system.  Truth and error are constantly being changed to suit the tempo and the times.  Most of today’s knowledge is based on what has been studied and written by human authority.  St. John asks the question: If we accept the testimony of men, is not the testimony of God greater?  How quickly the masses rush to any new prophet who will propose a remedy for life’s problems:  “Blind leaders of the blind!” He came unto His own and His own received Him not.

This is the fundamental question of Christianity, the acceptance or rejection of Christ’s teaching authority.  Our Lord will never use His Divine Power over human will.  Though He wills that all men believe, He will not have their faith at the expense of their human liberty.  The most decisive of God’s gifts to us is the freedom of our will.  What a terrible thing this free will is!  All the evil in the world represents the power we have which has dared to defy the All-Powerful God.  The very nature of sin is our full knowledge and willful opposition to God’s Divine Will.  After rejecting God, we have tried to kill Him.  Sin is nothingness, Eternal Negation: THE NON-SERVIUM OF SATAN!

One of the most effective tools used to rob man of his free will is FEAR; real fears or imagined fears, it makes no difference, as both are powerful in swaying man’s decisions.  Our poor world is sick.  Six centuries of erroneous thought and thousands of years of sinful folly have left their mark on the modern mind.  The worship of pleasure by the young and old, and the adulation given to power and money by our generation, make one weep!  Amid all he chaos of a world gone mad, there stands but one remedy, one solution: The Catholic Church alone has the power to save humanity.  Our aim must be to look at life as God looks at it.  It is only through the eyes of Faith that we can see the cause of the world’s illness.  There is only one thing that remains to be done.  We must apply to ourselves the merits won on Calvary.

Faith then is crowned by the indwelling presence of God that comes to all who are in the state of Sanctifying Grace.  We must become as little children, accepting and embracing the Will of God.  We must have faith in our Father.  Now is the second great siege of Christendom.  It is NOW time for martyrs and confessors of the Faith.  “Either you are with Me or you are against Me.”  If we but persevere in faith until the end of these troubled times, united with Mary, our triumph is assured.

I firmly believe that there is One God; and that in this One God, there are three Persons:  THE FATHER, THE SON AND THE HOLY GHOST; that the Son took to Himself the nature of man from the Virgin Mary’s womb, by the power of the Holy Ghost; and that in this human nature, He was crucified and died for us; that afterwards He rose again and ascended into Heaven, from whence He shall come to repay the just with everlasting glory, and the wicked with everlasting punishment.  Moreover, I believe whatsoever else the Catholic Church proposes to be believed, and this because God, Who is Sovereign Truth, Who can neither deceive nor be deceived, has revealed all these things to His Church.                   Amen.
