To Promote The Reign of Christ the King Through the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Miraculous Mother — February 18, 2017

Miraculous Mother

In the midst of multicolored specs,

My gaze turned upon Her:

The Virgin of Tepeyac.

My heart fluttered its wings with joy at Her sight.

Heading to Her,

As a child seeks after a butterfly resting on a branch,

I beamed at Her,

As four angels watched in awe.

My two right-handed fingers,

Pressed to my lips,

Touched her salmon, gold-filigree dress,

And Her praying hands,

Above the Christ Child,

Dwelling in the Holy Ghost’s Temple.

Genuflecting,

And then kneeling,

Pressed to my lips,

Clinging a rosary and a medal

To Her praying hands,

Like a stethoscope,

Listening to the pulsations of Her Heart

…Ave Maria…

…Gratia Plena…

…Dominus Tecum…

Sweet grace

From a cable line

Flowing, an electrical current,

Surges from Her Heart,

And enters mine.

O dear Mother, holy and refined,

I hope to give Thee honor

For the glory of God Divine!the-missionary-image-of-our-lady-of-guadalupe

The Feast of Our Lady of Fatima — May 13, 2016

The Feast of Our Lady of Fatima

from Fr. Z’s blog(http://wdtprs.com/blog/2016/05/13-may-2016-99th-anniversary-of-1st-apparition-of-our-lady-of-fatima/)

13 May 2016 – 99th anniversary of 1st apparition of Our Lady of Fatima

Today, Friday 13 May 2016, is the 99th anniversary of the Our Lady’s first appearance to the three shepherd children near Fatima, Portugal.  Next year: 100.  Portentous, given what’s going on in the Church these days.

I, for one, am not entirely convinced that we have seen every part of the so-called Third Secret. It’s controversial, I know.  Antonio Socci’s book on the so-called “Fourth Secret of Fatima” is in English now (UK HERE).  Alas, I don’t think that Tossati’s book (which is better) is in English.

You might want to check 1 Peter 5 today, for an entry about Sr. Lucia’s statements that speaks of the “final battle”.

‘The final battle between the Lord and the reign of Satan will be about marriage and the family. Don’t be afraid, because anyone who works for the sanctity of marriage and the family will always be contended and opposed in every way, for this is the decisive issue.’ And then she concluded: ‘however, Our Lady has already crushed its head.’”

Whether or not what we see swirling about “the family”, tearing at it, transmogrifying it, there is a “battle” going on. The final? Who knows. But one thing is sure. If the Enemy succeeds in destroying the core concept of family as intended by God in the minds and hearts of enough people, it’s game over over for an orderly, sane society. TEOTWAWKI.

Renew your own lives with the Sacrament of Penance: examine your consciences and GO TO CONFESSION.

Find strength in your daily recitation of the Most Holy Rosary.

Consciously join your cares to those of the Sacrifice of the Altar.

Make good Communions.

P.S.: Pray and make sacrifices for the Pope to consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary with all the world’s Bishops.  Many Catholic priests, newspapers, and online articles are lying when they tell you the 1984 Consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by John Paul II was approved by Our Lady and Sister Lucia.  It was not.  Our Lady asked for Russia to be consecrated to Her Immaculate Heart, not the world.

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
Feast day: December 12
(Taken from http://olrl.org/prophecy/ladyofg.shtml)

THE STORY

“And the land was polluted with blood,” by idolaters who sacrificed their
sons and daughters to devils. (Ps. 105:38) Such was Mexico when Hernando
Cortes arrived there in 1519. Some ten million native Nahuatl Indians
formed a vast confederation of tribes at this time. These tribes were
dominated by the powerful Aztecs who, for all their intelligence, industry,
and valor, were equally barbaric, enslaved by an extravagant system of
idolatry which placated its numerous gods with gruesome orgies of human
sacrifice and cannibalism. For centuries torrents of blood literally flowed
from the temple pyramids, with as many as 20,000 humans being sacrificed in
one day.

Cortes came and liberated the Nahuatls from their slavery to Satan, but
because of the corruption of the Spanish rulers and because of the Aztec’s
attachment to polygamy and other pagan practices, very few converted to
Catholicism in the first decade of Spanish rule. The saintly Juan de
Zumarraga, Mexico’s first bishop, could do little to convert the Aztecs,
but he remained confident in the unfailing help of the Queen of Heaven, to
whom he entrusted the future of New Spain.

Juan Diego, a simple and God-fearing man, was one of the few converts in
the first 10 years. For 6 years he had devoutly practiced the Faith,
walking 6 miles every morning to Mass. On Saturday, December 9, 1531, he
began his usual pre-dawn journey. As he reached the hill known as Tepeyac,
he heard a very wonderful music descending from the top of the hill. It
sounded like the sweetest melody of singing birds. Suddenly the singing
stopped and a gentle woman’s voice was heard from above the mount saying,
“Juanito, Juan Dieguito.” When he reached the summit, he saw a Lady
standing there who told him to come near. He marveled greatly at her
superhuman grandeur. Her garments were shining like the sun and the cliff
where she rested her feet was pierced with glitter.

The Lady thus spoke to him: “Know and understand well, you the most humble
of my sons, that I am the ever Virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for
Whom we live, of the Creator of all things, Lord of heaven and earth. I
wish that a temple be erected here quickly, so I may therein exhibit and
give all my love, compassion, help and protection, because I am your
merciful mother… Go to the bishop of Mexico and say to him that I
manifest my great desire, that here a temple be built to me.”

Juan went directly to the bishop and gave him the message. Fray Zumarraga,
however, did not seem to believe him and dismissed him after listening to
his story. When Juan Diego returned to Tepeyac hill, the Lady appeared
again and told him to “go again tomorrow and see the bishop … and again
tell him that I, in person, the ever virgin Holy Mary, Mother of God, sent
you.”

Juan visited the bishop’s house again the next day and repeated the story.
This time the bishop listened more attentively and then asked Juan to bring
some sign as a proof of the story. Our Lady told Juan that she would give
him a sign for the bishop on the following morning. He failed to return the
next day, however, because his uncle Juan Bernardino was gravely ill and by
night time asked Juan to summon a priest the next day.

On Tuesday, Juan climbed Tepeyac from a different angle to prevent the Lady
from seeing him and deterring his journey to get the priest. She approached
him from that side of the hill, however, and, on hearing his mission,
replied, “Do not fear this nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I, your
Mother, not here? Are you not under my protection? Do not be afflicted by
the illness of your uncle; he is now cured.”

Juan Bernardino related later that at that very hour a beautiful Lady
appeared to him, calling herself “she who crushes the serpent” (see Gen.
3:15). Juan Bernardino felt a profound peace come over his soul and through
his limbs a healing wave seemed to roll, filling him with strength and
cooling his burning fever. He was cured.

After reassuring Juan Diego, Our Lady told him to gather the flowers at the
top of the hill and give them to the bishop for a sign. But how could this
be? Flowers in December, the month in which all vegetation is destroyed by
freezing? Flowers on a hilltop full of crags, thorns, and thistles?
Reaching the top of the hill, Juan was amazed to find many varieties of
exquisite roses of Castella (in Spain), hitherto unknown to Mexico. He
placed the flowers in his tilma, a coarsely woven cloak of cactus fibers,
and set out for the bishop’s house.

When Juan Diego reached the bishop’s house and was finally admitted, he
unfolded the tilma, revealing the gorgeous, sweet scented flowers. Suddenly
there appeared on the face of the tilma a precious Image of the Ever-Virgin
Holy Mary, Mother of God. The bishop and all others present fell to their
knees upon seeing the miraculous image…

THE IMAGE

The Image of Our Lady that appeared on the tilma, which can still be seen
in Mexico City today, is truly miraculous and has been the wonder of
scientists for hundreds of years. All, after exhaustive investigation with
sophisticated analytic detectors, have concluded that the work is beyond
the power of men to produce.

They were unable to find any trace of paint residue or dye of any sort on
the Image. What produced the colors on Juan Diego’s cloak or how they were
applied remains a total mystery of science. The Image still retains its
original colors, even though it was unprotected by any covering during the
first 100 years of veneration. The bluish-green color of Our Lady’s mantle
is unique. It seems to be made of an unearthly shade that as yet no artist
has been able exactly to match. Moreover, a painter would be incredibly
foolish to choose an Indian’s tilma to work on and even more to paint right
over the center seam of the cloak. And had the Virgin not turned ever so
slightly to the right, the stitch would have divided her face. Just as
astonishing is the fact that only the seam still holds the tilma together.
The law of gravity does not allow a single flimsy cotton thread to bind two
heavier materials of cloth for more than ten years, much less four hundred
and fifty! In addition, the coarse weave of the tilma was utilized by the
Artist in such a precise manner as to give depth to the face of the Image.

Infrared radiation photography confirmed, besides the lack of paint and
brush strokes, no corrections, no underlying sketch, no sizing used to
render the surface smooth, no varnish covering the image to protect its
surface. According to specialists of the Kodak Corporation in Mexico, the
Image bears more resemblance to a color photograph than anything else.
Study of photographic enlargements of Our Lady’s face have revealed the
image of a bearded man, clearly identifiable in the eyes. Rigorous
investigations by leading oculists found not only the image of the bearded
man but all the optical imaging qualities of a normal human eye, such as
light reflection, image positioning and distortion on the cornea.

The Virgin’s mantle is covered with stars which stunningly and accurately
map out various constellations as might be seen in the Mexican sky. Even
more remarkably, this “star map” on the mantle is in reverse: providing a
view of the constellations from beyond them, as would be seen looking
through them towards the earth. The constellations are consistent with what
astronomers believe was in the sky above Mexico City the day the Image was
formed, December 12, 1531. The colors of the tunic and mantle are important
ones in the Aztec hierarchical structure, ones typically reserved for the
emperor.

Recent gynecological studies have also identified signs of pregnancy in the
image and a special flower, the Quincunx, over the place where the heart of
the unborn child would be. This flower is the Aztec symbol of the Lord of
the Universe.

The great majority of the miraculous aspects of the Image were not
discovered until the 20th century, when the technology and archaeology made
the discoveries possible. This is 400 years from the creation of the Image.

THE RESULT

When Bishop Zumarraga saw the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, he
commanded that a church be built on Tepeyac hill as Our Lady requested.
Thousands of Aztec Indians were present at the translation of the Image to
the new chapel. They chanted, “The Virgin is one of us. Our pure Mother,
Our Sovereign Lady, is one of us!” In a transport of enthusiasm, one group
of young warriors took their bows and sent a pretty volley of arrows
through the air. Unfortunately, one of the shafts struck and killed one of
the spectators. The poor native was picked up by his sorrowing friends and
carried into the chapel, where they placed him at the feet of Our Lady of
Guadalupe. While everyone together prayed for a miracle, suddenly the dead
man opened his eyes and rose up fully recovered!

The Bishop placed Juan Diego in charge of the new chapel and the recipient
of the apparitions spent the remainder of his life explaining the message
and the meaning of the visions to the pilgrims who came there. There
already existed good means of communication in that vast country and news
of the wonderful events were soon common knowledge everywhere. From 1531
until the present day, a continuous stream of pilgrims has flowed through
the doors of the church on Tepeyac hill. It is estimated now that as many
as twenty million pilgrims come to see the miraculous tilma every year.

In explaining the apparitions to the pilgrims, Juan laid great stress on
the fact that the Mother of the True God has chosen to come to the site of
the temple of the pagan mother-goddess Tonantzin to signify that
Christianity was to replace the Aztec religion. This startling fact made
such an impact on the Mexicans, that for years after the apparitions they
referred to the sacred image as the picture of Tonantzin (“Our Mother”) or
Teonantzin (“God’s Mother”).

Until 1531, the Sacrament of Baptism had been administered most to infants,
as the overwhelming majority of Aztec adults had resisted the advances of
the missionaries. However, as the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe began to
spread throughout the country, great numbers of all ages and classes began
to long for a new moral code based on the example of the Mother of the
‘white man’s god’, who could now only be the Mother of the True God, their
“clean Mother”, and who had captivated their minds and hearts with her
radiant purity, virtue and love.

As a result, the few missionaries in the country were soon increasingly
engaged in preaching, instructing and baptizing. The trickle of conversions
soon became a river, and that river a flood which is perhaps unprecedented
in the history of Christianity. 5,000,000 Catholics were lost to the Church
due to the Protestant Revolt in Europe at this time but their numbers were
more than replaced in a few years by over 9,000,000 Aztec converts (out of
10 million).

A famous Mexican preacher of the 19th century expressed this tidal wave of
conversions as follows:
“It is true that immediately after the conquest (of Cortes), some apostolic
men, some zealous missionaries, mild, gentle conquerors who were disposed
to shed no blood but their own, ardently devoted themselves to the
conversion of the Indians. However, these valiant men, because of their
fewness, because of the difficulty of learning various languages, and of
the vast extent of our territory, obtained, in spite of their heroic
efforts, but few and limited results.

“But scarcely had the Most Holy Virgin of Guadalupe appeared and taken
possession of this her inheritance, when the Catholic Faith spread with the
rapidity of light from the rising sun, through the wide extent and beyond
the bounds of the ancient empire of Mexico. Innumerable multitudes from
every tribe, every district, every race, in this immense country . . . who
were grossly superstitious, who were ruled by the instincts of cruelty,
oppressed by every form of violence, and utterly degraded, returned upon
themselves at the credible announcement of the admirably portentous
apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe, recognized their natural dignity,
forgot their misfortunes, put off their instinctive ferocity, and, unable
to resist such sweet and tender invitations, came in crowds to cast their
grateful hearts at the feet of so loving a Mother, and to mingle their
tears of emotion with the regeneration of the waters of Baptism.”

The missionaries were all but overwhelmed by the endless multitudes
clamoring for instruction and Baptism. Almost everywhere they traveled,
entire families would come running out of their village, entreating them
with signs to come and pour the water on their heads. When the numbers grew
too numerous to cope with individually, the missionaries formed the men and
women into two columns behind a cross-bearer. As they filed past the first
priest, he briefly imposed on each the Oil of Catechumens. Holding lighted
candles and singing a hymn, they would then converge on a second priest who
stood beside the baptismal font. The columns would slowly wind back to the
first priest where, with hands joined, husbands and wives would pronounce
their marriage vows together, receiving the Sacrament of Matrimony.

Several trustworthy contemporary writers note that one missionary, a
Flemish Franciscan named Peter of Ghent, baptized with his own hands over
1,000,000 Mexicans! “Who will not recognize the Spirit of God in moving so
many millions to enter the kingdom of Christ,” wrote Fr. Anticoli, S.J.,
“and when we consider that there occurred no portent or other supernatural
event … to attract such multitudes, other than the apparitions of the
Virgin, we may state with assurance that it was the Vision of the Queen of
the Apostles that called the Indians to the Faith.”

CONCLUSION

The miracle of Our Lady of Guadalupe is an unquestionable display of God’s
love and mercy for the Mexican and American people. As She converted the
hearts of the Aztec Indians, so let Her convert our modern, worldly hearts
to turn to Her and Her Son. Let us ask her help to restore modesty and
decency and especially to bring about the end of the modern sacrifice of
innocent humans to the altar of self-love, abortion. Foster devotion to
this Noble Virgin and Mother in your own life and the lives of others.

Contemplating her, remember the following words of a prayer composed by
Pope Pius XII, in which he declares the Virgin of Guadalupe the Empress of
all the Americas: “For we are certain, that as long as you are recognized
as Queen and Mother, Mexico and America will be safe.”

Immaculate Conception — December 9, 2015

Immaculate Conception

The Dogma of the Immaculate Conception is that the Blessed Virgin is conceived without the stain of Original Sin from St. Anne’s womb due to the foreseen merits of Jesus Christ, Her Divine Son.  What a beautiful Dogma!  It is my favorite!  Happy Feast of the Immaculate Conception!La Inmaculada Concepcion.jpg

The Beautiful Lady — December 5, 2015

The Beautiful Lady

As two little children went up to play

On top of a mountain,

They fell asleep

Like Angels on clouds,

With their cows several feet away.

As they awoke from their slumber,

They saw a beautiful Lady,

Wearing a Crucifix,

With a hammer on the right, pincers on the left,

Covered in roses,

From Head to Toe!

She wore a garland of roses

To cover Her hair

And was dressed like a little French Shepherdress.

The Beautiful Lady,

Covering Her Face with Her Hands,

Hides the exquisite diamond like tears sliding down from beneath Her Eyes.

She came to tell Her children great news!

Her Apocalypse is here!

This beautiful Lady

Still undergoes Her martyrdom,

Even after Her Assumption!

O beautiful Lady,

Who shed Her gentle tears for Jesus and now sheds them for the Church,

I cherish Thee!

Mary, Queen of Martyrs — November 30, 2015

Mary, Queen of Martyrs

(from http://copiosa.org/liguori/liguori_dolors.htm)

Mary, Queen of Martyrs

The Four Church Fathers (Roman and Byzantine Catholic) and the Virgin of Seven Sorrows, with Saints and Martyrs –  by GUARDI, Francesco – from Akademie der bildenden Künste, Vienna

Guardi depicts the Seven (7) Swords-of-Sorrow which would pierce Mary’s Heart (Soul), as predicted by Simeon, during the Presentation-of Jesus in the Temple, shortly after His Birth. These Seven Swords-of-Sorrow are:

1 – The Prophecy of Simeon – (Luke 2:34-35) or the Circumcision of Christ.
2 – The Flight into Egypt – (Matthew 2:13)
3 – The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple – (Luke 2:43-45)
4 – Mary Meets Jesus on the Way to Calvary.
5 – Jesus Dies on the Cross – (John 19:25)
6 – Mary Receives the Body of Jesus in Her Arms – (Matthew 27:57-59)
7 – The Body of Jesus Is Placed in the Tomb – (John 19:40-42)

The Seven Swords also have a ‘Martial’ Significance, symbolized by Guardi in his use-of the distant Watch-Tower, situated between the sitting/kneeling Church Fathers. Mary’s identification with the Shulamite in the Song of Songs allowed for the application of such Titles as Tower of David (SS 4:4) and Tower of Ivory (SS 7:5) to her. Both of these Titles, portray Mary as a ‘Powerful Fortress’.

“Thy Neck is as the Tower of David, which is built with Bulwarks: a Thousand Bucklers hang upon it, all the Armor of Valiant Men” – Song of Songs 4:4Jesus and Mary, both, Died-from the many Wounds-of Combat.

“Ah, cease not, O Advocate-of-Sinners, to-Assist my Afflicted Soul, in the midst-of the Combats, in which it will have to-Engage, on its Great Passage from-Time, to-Eternity”.

Mary was the Queen-of Martyrs, for her Martyrdom was Longer and Greater, than that of all the Martyrs.

Mary, Queen of Martyrs

by Saint Alphonsus Liguori

Who can ever have a Heart so-Hard, that it will not Melt, on-hearing the most Lamentable Event, which once occurred-in the World? There was a Noble and Holy Mother, who had an only Son. This Son was the most Amiable that can be Imagined — Innocent, Virtuous, Beautiful, Who Loved His Mother most-Tenderly; so-much-so that He had never caused her the Least Displeasure, but, had ever shown her all Respect, Obedience, and Affection; hence, this Mother had Placed-all her Affections on-Earth, in this Son. Hear, then, what Happened. This Son, through Envy, was Falsely Accused-by His Enemies; and though the Judge ‘Knew’, and himself ‘Confessed’, that He was Innocent, yet, that he might not Offend His Enemies, he Condemned Him to the Ignominious Death, that they had Demanded. This Poor Mother had to Suffer the Grief of-Seeing that Amiable and Beloved Son, Unjustly Snatched-from her, in the Flower-of His Age, by a Barbarous Death; for, by Dint-of Torments, and Drained-of all His Blood, He was made to Die on an Infamous Gibbet, in a Public Place-of Execution, and this before her own Eyes.

Devout Souls, what say you? Is not this Event, and is not this Unhappy Mother, Worthy-of Compassion. You already Understand, of Whom I speak. This Son, so-Cruelly Executed, was our Loving Redeemer, Jesus; and this Mother, was the Blessed Virgin Mary; who, for the Love she Bore us, was Willing to-see Him Sacrificed-to Divine Justice, by the Barbarity-of Men. This Great Torment, then, which Mary Endured-for us – a Torment which was more-than a Thousand Deaths, Deserves both our Compassion and our Gratitude. If we can make no-other Return, for so-much Love, at-least let us give a Few Moments this Day, to-consider the Greatness-of the Sufferings, by-which Mary became the Queen of Martyrs; for the Sufferings of her Great Martyrdom, exceeded those-of all the Martyrs; being, in the First (1st) Place, the Longest, in Point-of Duration; and, in the Second (2nd) Place, the Greatest, in Point-of Intensity.

First (1st) Point ─ As Jesus is called the King-of-Sorrows and the King-of-Martyrs, because He Suffered during His Life, more-than all other Martyrs; so also is Mary with-Reason, called the Queen-of-Martyrs, having Merited this Title-by Suffering the most Cruel Martyrdom possible, after that-of her Son. Hence, with Reason, was she called-by Richard of-Saint-Lawrence, “the Martyr of martyrs“; and of her can the Words-of Isaiah with all Truth be said, “He will Crown thee with a Crown of Tribulation“; that is to say, that that Suffering itself, which exceeded the Suffering-of all the other Martyrs ‘United’, was the Crown by which she was Shown-to-be the Queen-of-Martyrs. That Mary was a True Martyr cannot be Doubted, as Denis-the-Carthusian, Pelbart, Catharinus, and others prove; for it is an Undoubted Opinion, that Suffering, Sufficient-to Cause Death, is Martyrdom, even though Death does not Ensue-from it. Saint John the Evangelist is Revered-as a Martyr, though he did not Die, in the Caldron-of Boiling Oil, but he came-out more-Vigorous, than he went-in. Saint Thomas says, “that to have the Glory-of Martyrdom, it is Sufficient-to Exercise Obedience, in its Highest Degree, that is to say, to be Obedient unto Death“. “Mary was a Martyr“, says Saint Bernard, “not by the Sword-of the Executioner, but by Bitter Sorrow-of Heart“. If her Body was not Wounded-by the Hand-of the Executioner, her Blessed Heart was Transfixed-by a Sword-of-Grief, at the Passion-of her Son; Grief which was Sufficient-to have Caused her Death, not Once (100), but a Thousand (103) Times. From this we shall see that Mary was not-only a Real Martyr, but that her Martyrdom, Surpassed all-others; for it was Longer-than that of all others, and her Whole Life may be said to have-been a Prolonged-Death.

The Passion of Jesus“, as Saint Bernard says, “commenced-with His Birth“. So also did Mary, in all-things, Like-unto her Son, Endure her Martyrdom throughout her Life. Amongst other Significations-of the Name-of Mary, as Blessed Albert-the-Great asserts, is that of a “Bitter-Sea“. Hence, to her is applicable the Text-of Jeremiah: “Great as the Sea, is thy Destruction“. For, as the Sea is all Bitter and Salt, so-also was the Life-of Mary always Full-of Bitterness, at the Sight-of the Passion-of the Redeemer, which was ever Present-to her Mind. “There can be no-Doubt, that, Enlightened-by the Holy Ghost, in a Far Higher Degree than all the Prophets, she, far better than they, Understood the Predictions Recorded-by them in the Sacred Scriptures, concerning the Messiah“. This is Precisely-what the Angel Revealed-to Saint Bridget; and he also added, “that the Blessed Virgin, even before she became His Mother, Knowing how much the Incarnate Word was to-Suffer for the Salvation-of Men, and Compassionating this Innocent Savior, Who was to be so-Cruelly, put-to Death, for Crimes not His own, even then began her Great Martyrdom“.

Her Grief was Immeasurably-increased when she became the Mother-of the Savior; so that at the Sad Sight-of the many Torments which were to be Endured-by her Poor Son, she indeed Suffered a Long Martyrdom, a Martyrdom which Lasted her Whole Life. This was Signified-with Great Exactitude, to Saint Bridget, in a Vision which she had in-Rome, in the Church-of Saint Mary-Major, where the Blessed Virgin, with Saint Simeon, and an Angel, bearing a very Long Sword, Reddened-with Blood, appeared-to her, Denoting-thereby the Long and Bitter Grief, which Transpierced the Heart-of Mary, during her Whole Life. When the above-named Rupert, supposes Mary, thus Speaking:

Redeemed Souls, and my Beloved Children, do not Pity me Only-for the Hour in-which I Beheld my Dear Jesus, Expiring-before my Eyes; for the Sword-of Sorrow, Predicted-by Simeon, Pierced my Soul during the Whole-of my Life: when I was giving Suck-to my Son, when I was Warming Him in my Arms, I already Foresaw the Bitter Death that awaited Him. Consider, then, what Long and Bitter Sorrows, I must have Endured.

Wherefore Mary might well say, in the Words-of David, “My Life is Wasted with-Grief, and my Years in-Sighs“. “My Sorrow is continually before me“. “My Whole Life was spent in-Sorrow and in-Tears; for my Sorrow, which was Compassion-for my Beloved Son, never Departed-from before my Eyes, as I always Foresaw the Sufferings and Death, which He was One Day to-Endure“. The Divine Mother herself, Revealed-to Saint Bridget, that “even after the Death and Ascension-of her Son, whether she Ate, or Worked, the Remembrance-of His Passion was ‘Ever’, Deeply Impressed-on her Mind, and Fresh-in her Tender Heart“. Hence Tauler says, “that the most Blessed Virgin spent her Whole Life in-Continual Sorrow“; for her Heart was always Occupied with-Sadness, and with-Suffering.

Therefore, Time, which usually Mitigates the Sorrows-of the Afflicted, did not Relieve Mary; nay, even it Increased her Sorrow; for, as Jesus, on the one-hand, Advanced-in Age, and always appeared more-and-more Beautiful and Amiable; so also, on the other-hand, the Time-of His Death always Drew-nearer, and Grief always Increased, in the Heart-of Mary, at the Thought-of having to Lose Him on-Earth. So that, in the words Addressed-by the Angel to Saint Bridget: “As the Rose Grows-up amongst Thorns, so the Mother-of-God Advanced-in Years, in the Midst-of Sufferings; and as the Thorns increase-with the Growth-of the Rose, so also did the Thorns-of her Sorrows, increase-in Mary, the Chosen Rose-of the Lord, as she Advanced-in Age; and so much the more-Deeply did they Pierce her Heart“. Having now considered the Length-of this Sorrow, in Point-of Duration, let us Pass-to the Second (2nd) Point – its Greatness, in Point-of Intensity.

Second (2nd) Point. Ah, Mary was not only Queen-of-Martyrs, because her Martyrdom was Longer-than that of all-others, but also because it was the Greatest-of all Martyrdoms. Who, however, can Measure its Greatness? Jeremiah seems unable to find anyone, with whom he can Compare this Mother-of-Sorrows, when he considers her Great Sufferings, at the Death-of her Son. “To what shall I compare thee or to what shall I liken thee, O Daughter-of Jerusalem … for Great as the Sea, is thy Destruction: who shall Heal thee? Wherefore Cardinal Hugo, in a Commentary-on these Words, says, “O Blessed Virgin, as the Sea in Bitterness, exceeds all other Bitterness, so does thy Grief, exceed all other Grief“. Hence, Saint Anselm asserts, that “had not God, by a Special Miracle, Preserved the Life-of Mary in-each, Moment-of her Life, her Grief was such, that it would have Caused her Death“. Saint Bernadine-of-Sienna, goes so-far-as to Say, “that the Grief-of Mary was so Great that, were it Divided amongst all Men, it would Suffice-to cause their Immediate Death“.

But let us consider the Reasons, for-which Mary’s Martyrdom was Greater-than that of all Martyrs. In the First (1st) Place, we must remember that the Martyrs endured their Torments, which were the Effect-of ‘Fire’ and other ‘Material Agencies’, in their Bodies; Mary Suffered hers in her Soul, as Saint Simeon foretold: “And my own Soul, a Sword shall Pierce“. As if the Holy Old Man had said: “O most Sacred Virgin, the Bodies of other Martyrs, will be Torn-with Iron, but thou wilt be Transfixed, and Martyred in thy Soul, by the Passion of thine own Son“. Now, as the Soul is more Noble than the Body, so-much Greater were Mary’s Sufferings, than those of ‘All’ the Martyrs, as Jesus Christ Himself said to Saint Catherine-of-Sienna: “Between the Sufferings of the Soul, and those of the Body, there is no comparison“. Whence the Holy-Abbot Arnold-of-Chartres says, “that whoever had been Present-on Mount Calvary, to Witness the Great Sacrifice-of the Immaculate Lamb, would there have beheld Two Great Altars, the One in the Body-of Jesus, the other in the Heart-of Mary; for, on that Mount, at the same-time that the Son Sacrificed His Body by-Death, Mary Sacrificed her Soul by-Compassion“.

Moreover, says Saint Antoninus, “while other Martyrs Suffered by-Sacrificing their own Lives, the Blessed Virgin Suffered by-Sacrificing her Son’s Life, a Life that she Loved far-more-than her own; so that she not only Suffered-in her Soul, all that her Son Endured-in His Body, but moreover, the Sight-of her Son’s Torments, brought more-Grief to her Heart, than if she had Endured them all in her own Person“. No one can Doubt-that Mary Suffered in her Heart, all the Outrages which she saw Inflicted-on her Beloved Jesus. Any one can Understand-that the Sufferings-of Children, are also those of their Mothers, who Witness them. Saint Augustine, considering the Anguish, endured-by the Mother-of the Maccabees, in Witnessing the Tortures-of her Sons, says, “She, seeing their Sufferings, Suffered-in each one; because she Loved them all, she Endured-in her Soul, what they Endured-in their Flesh“. Thus also, did Mary Suffer all those Torments, Scourges, Thorns, Nails, and the Cross, which Tortured the Innocent Flesh-of Jesus, all entered at-the-same Time, into the Heart-of this Blessed Virgin, to-complete her Martyrdom. “He Suffered-in the Flesh, and she in her Heart“, writes that Blessed Amadeus. “So much so“, says Saint Lawrence-Justinian, “that the Heart of Mary became, as it were, a Mirror-of the Passion-of the Son, in which might be seen, Faithfully Reflected, the Spitting, the Blows and Wounds, and all that Jesus Suffered“. Saint Bonaventure also remarks that “those Wounds –which were Scattered-over the Body-of our Lord, were all United in the Single Heart-of Mary“.

Thus was our Blessed Lady, through the Compassion-of her Loving Heart for her Son, Scourged, Crowned-with Thorns, Insulted, and Nailed-to the Cross. Whence the same Saint, considering Mary on Mount Calvary, Present-at the Death-of her Son, Questions her in these Words: “O Lady, tell me, where didst thou stand? Was it only at the Foot-of the Cross? Ah, much-more than this, thou wast on the Cross itself, Crucified with thy Son“. Richard of-Saint-Lawrence, on the Words-of the Redeemer, Spoken-by Isaiah the Prophet, “I have Trodden the Wine-Press alone, and of the Gentiles, there is not a Man with Me“, says, “It is True, O Lord, that in the Work of Human Redemption, Thou didst Suffer ‘Alone’, and that there was not a Man, who Sufficiently Pitied Thee; but there was a Woman with Thee, and she was Thine own Mother; she Suffered-in her Heart, all that Thou didst Endure-in Thy Body“.

But all this is saying too-Little, of Mary’s Sorrows, since, as I have already Observed, she Suffered-more, in Witnessing the Sufferings-of her Beloved Jesus, than-if she had herself Endured-all the Outrages and Death of her Son. Erasmus, speaking-of Parents in-General, says, that “they are more-Cruelly Tormented-by their Children’s Sufferings, than by their Own“. This is not always True, but in Mary, it evidently was so; for it is certain that she Loved her Son and His Life, beyond-all comparison, more-than herself or a Thousand Lives-of her own. Therefore Blessed Amadeus Rightly-affirms, that “the Afflicted Mother, at the Sorrowful Sight of the Torments of her Beloved Jesus, Suffered far more than she would have done, had she herself endured His Whole Passion“. The Reason is Evident, for, as Saint Bernard says, “the Soul is more where it Loves, than where it Lives“. Our Lord Himself had already said the same thing: “Where our Treasure is, there also is our Heart“. If Mary, then, by Love, Lived-more in her Son than in herself, she must have Endured far-Greater Torments in the Sufferings and Death of her Son, than she would have done, had the most Cruel Death in the World, been Inflicted-upon her.

Here we must Reflect-on another Circumstance, which Rendered the Martyrdom-of Mary, beyond-all Comparison, Greater-than the Torments-of all the Martyrs: it is, that, in the Passion-of Jesus, she Suffered much, and she Suffered, moreover, without the least-Alleviation. The Martyrs Suffered under the Torments Inflicted-on them by Tyrants; but the Love of Jesus, Rendered their Pains, Sweet and Agreeable. A Saint Vincent, was Tortured-on a Rack, Torn-with Pincers, Burnt-with Red-Hot Iron Plates; but, as Saint Augustine remarks, “it seemed as if it was ‘One’ who Suffered, and ‘Another’ who Spoke“. The Saint addressed the Tyrant with such Energy and Contempt-for his Torments, that it seemed as-if ‘One’ Vincent Suffered and ‘Another’ Spoke; so Greatly did God Strengthen him, with the Sweetness-of His Love, in the midst-of all he Endured.

A Saint Boniface, had his Body Torn-with Iron Hooks; Sharp-Pointed Reeds were Thrust-between his Nails and Flesh; melted-Lead was Poured-into his Mouth; and in the midst-of all, he could not Tire saying, “I give Thee Thanks, O Lord Jesus Christ“. A Saint Mark and a Saint Marcellinus, were Bound-to a Stake, their feet Pierced-with Nails; and when the Tyrant addressed them, saying, “Wretches, see to what a State you are Reduced; Save yourselves from these Torments“, they answered: “Of what Pains, of what Torments dost thou Speak? We never Enjoyed so Luxurious a Banquet, as in the Present Moment, in which we Joyfully Suffer-for the Love-of Jesus Christ“. A Saint Lawrence, Suffered; but when Roasting-on the Gridiron, “the ‘Interior-Flame’ of Love“, says Saint Leo, “was more-Powerful in-Consoling his Soul, than the ‘Flame-Without’, in Torturing his Body“. Hence, Love Tendered him so-Courageous, that he ‘Mocked’ the Tyrant, saying, “If thou Desirest to Feed-on my Flesh, a Part is Sufficiently Roasted; Turn it, and Eat“. But how, in the Midst-of so-many Torments, in that Prolonged-Death, could the Saint thus Rejoice? “Ah!” replies Saint Augustine, “Inebriated with the Wine-of Divine Love, he felt neither Torments nor Death“.

So that, the more the Holy Martyrs Loved Jesus, the less did they ‘Feel’ their Torments and Death; and the Sight-alone, of the Sufferings-of a Crucified God, was sufficient-to Console them. But, was our Suffering Mother also Consoled-by Love-for her Son, and the Sight-of His Torments? Ah, No!!!; for this very Son, Who Suffered, was the Whole Cause-of them, and the Love she bore Him, was her ‘Only’ and most-Cruel Executioner; for Mary’s Whole Martyrdom, consisted-in Beholding and Pitying her Innocent and Beloved Son, Who Suffered so much. Hence, the Greater was her Love for Him, the more Bitter and Inconsolable was her Grief. “Great as the Sea, is thy Destruction; who shall Heal thee“? Ah, Queen-of-Heaven, Love hath Mitigated the Sufferings-of other Martyrs, and Healed their Wounds; but who hath ever Soothed thy Bitter Grief? Who hath ever Healed, the too-Cruel Wounds of thy HeartWho shall Heal thee“, since that very Son Who could give thee Consolation was, by His Sufferings, the only Cause-of thine, and the Love which thou didst bear Him, was the whole Ingredient-of thy Martyrdom. So that, as other Martyrs, as Diez remarks, are all Represented-with the Instruments-of their Sufferings — a Saint Paul with a ‘Sword’, a Saint Andrew with a ‘Cross’, a Saint Lawrence with a ‘Gridiron’ — Mary is Represented-with her Dead Son, in her arms; for Jesus Himself, and He alone, was the Instrument-of her Martyrdom, by Reason-of the Love she bore Him. Richard of-Saint-Victor, confirms in a few-words, all that I have now said: “In other Martyrs, the Greatness of their Love, Soothed the Pains of their Martyrdom; but in the Blessed Virgin, the Greater-was her Love, the Greater-were her Sufferings, the more-Cruel was her Martyrdom“.

It is Certain that, the more we Love a Thing, the Greater is the Pain we ‘Feel’, in Losing it. We are more-Afflicted at the Loss-of a Brother, than at that-of a Beast-of-Burden; we are more Grieved-at the Loss-of a Son, than at that of a Friend. Now, Cornelius-a-Lapide says, “that to Understand the Greatness-of Mary’s Grief, at the Death of her Son, we must Understand the Greatness-of the Love, she bore Him“. But who can ever Measure, that Love? Blessed Amadeus says that “in the Heart of Mary, were United Two kinds-of Love, for her Jesus — Supernatural Love, by which she Loved Him as her God, and Natural Love, by which she Loved Him as her Son“. So that, these Two (2) Loves, became One (1); but so-Immense a Love, that William-of-Paris even says that the Blessed Virgin, “Loved Him as-much-as it was Possible, for a Pure Creature to Love Him“. Hence, Richard of-Saint-Victor affirms that, “as there was no Love like her Love, so there was no-Sorrow, like her Sorrow“. And if the Love-of Mary towards her Son was Immense, Immense also, must have been her Grief in Losing Him, by Death. “Where there is the Greatest Love“, says Blessed Albert-the-Great, “there also is the Greatest Grief“.

Let us now Imagine-to ourselves, the Divine Mother Standing-near her Son, Expiring-on the Cross, and Justly applying-to herself the Words-of Jeremiah, thus addressing us: “O all ye that Pass-by the Way, Attend and See, if there be any Sorrow like-to my Sorrow. O you who Spend your Lives upon Earth, and Pity me not, Stop awhile to Look at me, now that I Behold this Beloved Son, Dying-before my Eyes; and then see if, amongst all those who are Afflicted and Tormented, a Sorrow is to be found like unto my Sorrow“. “No, O most Suffering of all mothers“, replies Saint Bonaventure, “no more Bitter Grief than thine can be found; for no Son more Dear than thine, can be found“. Ah, “there never was a more Amiable Son in the World, than Jesus“, says Richard of-Saint-Lawrence; “nor has there ever been a mother, who more Tenderly Loved her Son, than Mary! But since there never has been in the World, a Love like-unto Mary’s Love, how can any Sorrow be found like-unto Mary’s Sorrow“?

Therefore, Saint Ildephonsus did not hesitate to assert, “to say that Mary’s Sorrows were Greater than all the Torments-of the Martyrs, United, was to say too Little“. And Saint Anselm adds, that “the most Cruel Tortures, Inflicted-on the Holy Martyrs, were Trifling, or as Nothing, in Comparison-with the Martyrdom-of Mary“. Saint Basil-of-Seleucia also writes, “that as the Sun, exceeds all the other Planets in-Splendor, so did Mary’s Sufferings, exceed those of all the other Martyrs“. A Learned Author, concludes with a Beautiful Sentiment. He says that, so-Great was the Sorrow-of this Tender Mother, in the Passion-of Jesus, that she alone, Compassionated-in a Degree, by-any-means Adequate-to its Merits, the Death-of a God, made Man.

But here, Saint Bonaventure, Addressing this Blessed Virgin, says, “And why, O Lady, didst thou also go, to Sacrifice thyself on Calvary? Was not a Crucified God, sufficient-to Redeem us, that thou, His Mother, wouldst also go to be Crucified with Him“? Indeed, the Death-of Jesus was more-than-Enough, to Save the World, and an Infinity (∞)-of Worlds; but this Good Mother, for the Love she bore us, Wished also to-Help the Cause-of our Salvation, with the Merits-of her Sufferings, which she Offered-for us, on Calvary.

Therefore, Blessed Albert-the-Great says, “that as we are under Great Obligations-to Jesus, for His Passion Endured-for our Love, so also are we under Great Obligations-to Mary, for the Martyrdom which she Voluntarily Suffered-for our Salvation, in the Death-of her Son“. I say Voluntarily, since, as Saint Agnes revealed-to Saint Bridget, “our Compassionate and Benign Mother was Satisfied, rather-to Endure any Torment, than-that our Souls should not be Redeemed, and be left-in their former State-of-Perdition“. And, indeed, we may say that Mary’s only Relief-in the Midst-of her Great Sorrow-in the Passion-of her Son, was to-See the Lost World Redeemed-by His Death, and Men, who were His Enemies, Reconciled-with God. “While Grieving, she Rejoiced“, says Simon-of-Cassia, “that a Sacrifice was Offered-for the Redemption-of all, by which He Who was Angry, was Appeased“.

So Great a Love, on the Part-of Mary, Deserves our Gratitude, and that Gratitude should be Shown, by at-least Meditating-upon and Pitying her, in her Sorrow. But she Complained-to Saint Bridget, that very-Few did so, and that the Greater Part-of the World, lived-in Forgetfulness-of them: “I look around at all who are on Earth, to see if by-chance, there are any who Pity me, and Meditate-upon my Sorrows; and I find that there are very few. Therefore, my Daughter, though I am Forgotten-by many, at least do Thou, not Forget me; consider my Anguish, and Imitate, as-far-as thou canst, my Grief“.

To Understand, how Pleasing it is to the Blessed Virgin, that we should-Remember her Dolors, we need only know that, in the Year 1239, she appeared-to Seven (7) Devout Clients-of hers (who were afterwards Founders-of the Religious Order of the ‘Servants-of-Mary’ – ‘Servites’), with a Black Garment in her hand, and Desired them, if they Wished-to Please her, Often-to Meditate-on her Sorrows: for this purpose, (and to remind them of her Sorrows) she expressed her Desire, that in-Future, they should wear that Mourning Dress. Jesus Christ Himself, Revealed-to the Blessed Veronica-da-Binasco, that He is, as-it-were, more-Pleased in-seeing His Mother ‘Compassionated’, than Himself; for thus He addressed her: “My daughter, Tears shed-for My Passion are Dear-to Me; but as I Love My Mother Mary, with an Immense Love, the Meditation-of the Torments, which she Endured-at My Death, is even more-Agreeable to Me“.

Wherefore, the Graces promised-by Jesus, to those who are Devoted-to the Dolors-of Mary, are very Great. Pelbert relates that it was Revealed-to Saint Elizabeth, that after the Assumption-of the Blessed Virgin into Heaven, Saint John-the-Evangelist, desired-to see her again. The Favor was Granted him; his Dear Mother appeared-to him, and with her, Jesus Christ also appeared; the Saint then heard Mary ask her Son to-Grant some Special Grace to all those who are Devoted-to her Dolors. Jesus Promised her Four (4) Principal Ones:

First, that those, who before Death, Invoke the Divine Mother, in the Name-of her Sorrows, should obtain True Repentance-of all their Sins.

Second, that He would Protect all, who have this Devotion in their Tribulations, and that He would Protect them, especially-at the Hour-of Death.

Third, that He would Impress-upon their Minds, the Remembrance-of His Passion, and that they should have their Reward-for it, in Heaven.

Fourth, that He would Commit such Devout Clients, to the Hands-of Mary, with the Power-to Dispose-of them, in whatever Manner she might Please, and to Obtain for them, all the Graces she might Desire.

In Proof-of this, let us see in the following-Example, how Greatly, Devotion-to the Dolors-of Mary, Aids-in Obtaining Eternal (∞) Salvation.

Example

In the Revelations-of Saint Bridget, we read that there was a Rich Man, as Noble by-Birth, as he was Vile and Sinful in his Habits. He had given himself, by an Express-Compact, as a Slave-to the Devil; and for Sixty (60) Successive Years, had-Served him, Leading such-a-Life as may be Imagined, and never Approaching the Sacraments. Now, this Prince was Dying; and Jesus Christ, to show him Mercy, commanded Saint Bridget to tell her Confessor, to Go and Visit him, and Exhort him to-Confess his Sins. The Confessor went, and the Sick Man said that he did not-Require Confession, as he had often-Approached the Sacrament-of-Penance. The Priest went a Second (2nd) Time; but this Poor Slave of-Hell, Persevered-in his Obstinate Determination, not to Confess. Jesus again told the Saint to-Desire the Confessor to-Return. He did so; and on this Third (3rd) Occasion, told the Sick Man, the Revelation made-to the Saint, and that he had Returned so-many Times, because Our Lord, Who Wished-to Show him Mercy, had so-Ordered. On Hearing this, the Dying Man was ‘Touched’, and began-to Weep: “But how“, he exclaimed, “can I be Saved; I, who for Sixty Years have Served the Devil as his Slave, and have my Soul Burdened-with Innumerable Sins“? “My son“, answered the Father, Encouraging him, “doubt not; if you Repent-of them, on the Part-of God, I Promise you Pardon“. Then, Gaining Confidence, he said to the Confessor, “Father, I Looked-upon myself as-Lost, and already Despaired-of Salvation; but now I feel a Sorrow-for my Sins, which gives me Confidence; and since God has not yet Abandoned me, I will make my Confession“. In fact, he made his Confession, Four (4) Times on that Day, with the Greatest Marks-of Sorrow, and on the Following Morning, Received the Holy Communion. On the Sixth (6th) Day, Contrite and Resigned, he Died. After his Death, Jesus Christ again Spoke-to Saint Bridget, and told her that, that- Sinner was Saved; that he was then in-Purgatory, and that he Owed his Salvation to the Intercession-of the Blessed Virgin, His Mother; for the Deceased, although he had Led so-Wicked a-Life, had nevertheless always Preserved Devotion-to her Dolors, and whenever he Thought-of them, Pitied her.

APPARITION of the BLESSED VIRGIN on the Mountain of

LA SALETTE the 19th of September, 1846

The following Secret was given by Our Lady to two children, Mélanie Calvat and Maximin Giraud, on September 19, 1846, while they were tending cattle on the mountain of La Salette, France.

“On the 18th of September (1846), the eve of the Holy Apparition of the Holy Virgin, I was alone, as usual, watching over my Master’s cows. Around eleven o’clock in the morning, I saw a small boy walking towards me. I was frightened at this, for it seemed to me that everyone ought to know that I avoided all kinds of company. This boy came up to me and said:

“Little girl, I’m coming with you, I’m from Corps too”. At these words, the natural evil in me soon showed itself, and taking a few steps back, I told him: “I don’t want anybody around. I want to be alone.” But the boy followed me, saying: “Go on, let me stay with you. My Master told me to come and watch over my cows together with yours. I’m from Corps.”

I walked away from him, gesturing to him that I didn’t want anybody around, and when I was some distance away, I sat down on the grass. There, I used to talk with the little flowers of the Good Lord.

A moment later, I looked behind me, and there I found Maximin sitting close to me. Straightway he says to me: “Keep me with you. I’ll be very good.”

But the natural evil in me will not hear reason. I jump to my feet, and run a little farther off without saying a word and again I start playing with the little flowers of the Good Lord. In an instant, Maximin was there again, telling me he would be very good, that he wouldn’t talk, that he would get bored all by himself, and that his Master had sent him to be with me, etc. This time, I took pity, I gestured to him to sit down, and I kept on playing with the little flowers of the Good Lord.

It wasn’t long before Maximin broke the silence by bursting into laughter (I think he was making fun of me). I look at him and he says to me: “Let’s have some fun, let’s make up a game”. I said nothing in reply, for I was so ignorant I didn’t understand what games with other people were, always having been alone. I played with the flowers, on my own, and Maximin came right up close to me, doing nothing but laughing, telling me the flowers didn’t have ears to listen to me and that we should play together instead. But I had no liking for the game he told me to play. I started talking to him, however, and he told me that the ten days he was to spend with his Master would soon be over and then he would go home to his father in Corps etc…

While he was talking, I heard the bell of La Salette, it was the Angelus. I gestured to Maximin to lift his soul up to God. He took off his hat and was silent for a moment. Then I said: “Do you want to have dinner?” “Yes, he replied, let’s eat.” We sat down and I brought out of my bag the provisions my Master had given me. As was my habit, before breaking into my little round loaf, I made a cross with the point of my knife in the bread, and a little hole in the middle, saying: “If the devil’s in there, may he leave, and if the Good Lord is in there, may he stay!” and I rapidly covered up the little hole. Maximin burst into laughter and kicked the loaf out of my hands. It rolled down the mountainside and was lost from site. I had another piece of bread which we shared. Afterwards, we played a game. Then, realizing that Maximin must still be hungry, I pointed out a place on the mountainside covered with all kinds of berries. I urged him to go and eat some and he went straight away. He ate a few berries and brought back his hat full of them. In the evening we walked back down the mountain together and promised to come back the next day and watch over our cows together.

The next day, the 19th of September, I met Maximin on the way up. We climbed up the mountain side together. I discovered that Maximin was a very good, simple boy, and would willingly talk about what I wanted to talk about. He was also very flexible and had no fixed opinions. He was just a little curious, for, when I walked away from him, as soon as he saw I had stopped, he would run over to me to see what I was doing and hear what I was saying to the flowers of the Good Lord. And if he arrived too late, he would ask me what I had said.

Maximin told me to teach him a game. It was already late morning. I told him to gather some flowers for the “Paradise”. We set to work together. Soon we had a number of flowers of various colours. I could hear the village Angelus ringing, for the weather was fine and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Having told the Good Lord what we had learned, I said to Maximin that we ought to drive our cows on to a small plateau near the gully, where there would be stones to build the “Paradise”. We drove our cows to the selected spot and then had a small meal. Then we started collecting stones to build our little house, which comprised of a so-called ground floor which was where we were to live, and then a story above which was to be, as we called it, “Paradise.”

This story was decorated all over with different-coloured flowers, with garlands hanging from flower stalks. This “Paradise” was covered by a single large stone which we had strewn with flowers. We had also hung garlands all the way round. When we had finished, we sat and looked at the “Paradise”. We began to feel sleepy and having moved a couple of feet away, we went to sleep on the grass.

II

When I woke up I couldn’t see the cows, so I called Maximin and climbed up the little mound. From there I could see our cows grazing peacefully and I was on my way down, with Maximin on his way up, when all at once I saw a beautiful light shining more brightly than the sun.

“Maximin, do you see what is over there? Oh! my God!” At the same moment, I dropped the stick I was holding. Something inconceivably fantastic passed through me in that moment, and I felt myself being drawn. I felt a great respect, full of love, and my heart beat faster.

I kept my eyes firmly fixed on this light, which was static, and as if it had opened up, I caught sight of another, much more brilliant light which was moving, and in this light I saw a most beautiful lady sitting on top of our Paradise, with her head in her hands.

This beautiful Lady stood up, she coolly crossed her arms while watching us, and said to us:

Come, my children, fear not, I am here to PROCLAIM GREAT NEWS TO YOU.”

These soft and sweet words made me fly to her, and my heart desired to attach itself to her forever.

When I was up close to the Beautiful Lady, in front of her to her right, she began to speak and from her beautiful eyes tears also started to flow.

If my people do not wish to submit themselves, I am forced to let go off the hand of my Son. It is so heavy and weighs me down so much I can no longer keep hold of it.

I have suffered all of the time for the rest of you! If I do not wish my Son to abandon you, I must take it upon myself to pray for this continually. And the rest of you think little of this. In vain you will pray, in vain you will act, you will never be able to make up for the troubles I have taken over for the rest of you.

I gave you six days to work, I kept the seventh for myself, and no one wishes to grant it to me. This is what weighs down the arm of my Son so much.

Those who drive carts cannot speak without putting the name of my Son in the middle.

These are the two things which weigh down the arm of my Son so much. If the harvest is spoiled, it is only because of the rest of you. I made you see this last year with the potatoes, you took little account of this. It was quite the opposite when you found bad potatoes, you swore oaths, and you included the name of my Son. They will continue to go bad, at Christmas there will be none left.”

At this point, I was trying to interpret the word “potatoes” (pommes de terre): I thought I understood it to be “apples” (pommes). The Beautiful and Good Lady, reading my thoughts, repeated thus:

You do not understand, my children. I will tell it to you another way.

“If the harvest is spoiled, it does not seem to affect you. I made you see this last year with the potatoes. You took little account of this. It was quite the opposite when you found bad potatoes, you swore oaths, and you included the name of my Son. They will continue to go bad and at Christmas, there will be none left.

If you have corn, you must not sow it. The beasts will eat all that you sow. And all that grows will fall to dust when you thresh it. A great famine will come. Before the famine comes, children under the age of seven will begin to tremble and will die in the arms of those who hold them. The others will do penance through hunger. The nuts will go bad, the grapes will become rotten.

At this point, the Beautiful Lady, who was entrancing me, for a moment did not make herself heard. I could see, however, that she was continuing, as if speaking, to move graciously her kindly lips. At this moment, Maximin was receiving his secret. Then, turning to me, the Most Holy Virgin spoke to me and gave me a secret in French. Here is this secret in its entirety as she gave it to me:

“Mélanie, what I am going to tell you now will not always be a secret; you can publish it in 1858.

“Priests, my Son’s ministers, priests, by their evil life, by their irreverences and their impiety in celebrating the holy mysteries, love of money, love of honor and pleasures, priests have become sewers of impurity. Yes, priests call forth vengeance, and vengeance is suspended over their heads. Woe to priests, and to persons consecrated to God, who by their infidelities and their evil life are crucifying my son anew! The sins of persons consecrated to God cry to heaven and call for vengeance, and now here is vengeance at their very doors, for no longer is anyone found to beg mercy and pardon for the people; there are no more generous souls, there is now no one worthy of offering the spotless Victim to the Eternal on the worlds behalf.

“God will strike in an unparalleled manner. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth! God will exhaust His anger, and no one will be able to escape so many evils at once. The heads, the leaders of the people of God, have neglected prayer and penance, and the devil has darkened their minds; they have become those wandering stars which the ancient devil will drag with his tail to destruction. God will permit the ancient serpent to sow divisions among rulers, in all societies and in all families; both physical and moral punishments will be suffered. God will abandon men to themselves and will send chastisements one after the other for over 35 years.

“Society is on the very eve of most terrible scourges and greatest events; one must expect to be governed by a rod of iron and to drink the chalice of God’s wrath.

“Let not my Son’s Vicar, the Sovereign Pontiff Pius IX leave Rome after the year 1859; but let him be steadfast and generous, let him do battle with the weapons of faith and love; I shall be with him.

“Let him beware of Napoleon; his heart is double, and when he will want to be both Pope and emperor at the same time, God will soon withdraw from him; he is that eagle who, desiring always to rise, will fall on the sword he wanted to use to force the peoples to exalt him.

“Italy will be punished for its ambition in wanting to shake of the yoke of the Lord of lords; thus she will be handed over to war; blood will flow on all sides; Churches will be closed or desecrated; priests, religious will be driven out; they will be put to death, and to a cruel death. Many will abandon the faith, and the number of priests and religious who will separate themselves from the true religion will be great; even Bishops will be found among these persons.

“Let the Pope beware of miracle workers, for the time has come for the most astonishing wonders to take place on the earth and in the air.

“In the year 1864 Lucifer, together with a great number of devils, will be loosed from hell; little by little they will abolish the faith, and that even in persons consecrated to God; they will so blind them, that without a special grace, these persons will take on the spirit of these evil angels; a number of religious houses will lose the faith entirely and cause many souls to be damned.

“Bad books will abound over the earth, and the spirits of darkness will everywhere spread universal relaxation in everything concerning God’s service: they will have very great power over nature; there will be churches to serve these spirits. People will be transported form one place to another by these evil spirits, and even priests, because they will not have lived by the good spirit of the gospel, which is a spirit of humility, charity and zeal for the glory of God. The dead and the just will be made to rise.”

[Mélanie interpolated here: “That is to say, these dead will assume the prospect of righteous souls who once lived on earth, in order to seduce men more easily; these so-called resurrected dead, who will be nothing other than the devil under these faces, will preach another Gospel contrary to that of the true Christ Jesus, denying the existence of heaven, if these be not in fact the souls of the damned. All these souls will appear joined to their bodies.”]

“There will be extraordinary wonders every place because the true faith has been extinguished and false light illumines the world. Woe to the princes of the church who will be occupied only with piling up riches upon riches, with guarding their authority and lording with pride!

“My Son’s Vicar will have much to suffer, because for a time the Church will be handed over to great persecutions: it will be the time of darkness; the Church will undergo a frightful crisis.

“With God’s holy faith forgotten, each individual will want to direct himself and rise above his peers. Civil and ecclesiastical authority will be abolished , all order and justice will be trampled underfoot. Only murders, hatred, jealousy, lying and discord will be seen, with no love of country or family.

“The Holy Father will suffer greatly. I shall be with him till the end to receive his sacrifice.

“The wicked will make a number of attempts on his life without being able to harm him; but neither he nor his successor will see the triumph of God’s Church.

“Civil governments will all have the same objective, which will be to abolish and make every religious principle disappear, to make way for materialism, atheism, spiritism and vices of all kinds.

“In the year 1865, the abomination will be seen in the holy places; in the convents the flowers of the Church will putrefy, and the devil will establish himself as king of all hearts. Let those who are at the head of religious communities be on their guard concerning the persons they are to receive, because the devil will use all his malice to introduce into religious orders persons given to sin, for disorders and love of carnal pleasures will be widespread over the whole earth.

“France, Italy, Spain and England will be at war, blood will flow in the streets; Frenchmen will fight Frenchmen, Italian with Italian; then there will be a general war which will be appalling. For some time God will no longer remember France or Italy, because the Gospel of Jesus Christ is no longer known. The wicked will unleash all their malice; even in homes there will be killing and mutual massacres.

“With the first lightning blow of His sword, the mountains and all nature will tremble with dread, because the disorders and crimes of men are piercing the vault of the heavens. Paris will be burned and Marseilles swallowed up; a number of large cities will be shattered and swallowed by earthquakes; all will seem lost; only murders will be seen, the clash of arms and blasphemies heard. The righteous will suffer greatly; their prayers, their penances and their tears will rise to heaven and all God’s people will ask pardon and mercy and will ask my help and intercession. Then Jesus Christ, by an act of His justice and His great mercy toward the righteous, will command His angels to put all His enemies to death. At one blow the persecutors of the Church of Jesus Christ and all men given to sin will perish, and the earth will become like a desert.

“Then there will be peace, the reconciliation of God with men; Jesus Christ will be served, adored and glorified; charity will flourish everywhere. The new kings will be the right arm of Holy Church, which will be strong, humble, pious, poor, zealous and imitative of the virtues of Jesus Christ. The Gospel will be preached everywhere, and men will make great strides in the faith, because there will be unity among Jesus Christ’s workers and men will live in the fear of God.

“This peace among men will not last long: 25 years of abundant harvests will make them forget that the sins of men are the cause of all the woes which happen on earth.

“A precursor of the Antichrist, with his troops drawn from many nations, will wage war against the true Christ, sole Savior of the world; e will shed much blood and will seek to annihilate the cult of God so as to be regarded as a god.

“The earth will be struck with plagues of all kinds;” [Mélanie added here: “Besides pestilence and famine, which will be widespread”] “there will be wars up to the last war, which will then be waged by the ten kings of the Antichrist, kings who will all have a common design and will be the sole rulers of the world. Before this happens, there will be a sort of false peace in the world; people will think only of amusing themselves; the wicked will indulge in all kinds of sin; but the children of Holy Church, children of the true faith, my true imitators, will grow in the love of God and in the virtues dearest to me. Happy the humble souls lead by the Holy Ghost! I shall battle along with them until they reach the fullness of maturity.

“Nature begs vengeance on account of men, and she shudders with dread, awaiting what must happen to the crime-stained earth.

“Tremble, earth, and you who profess to serve Jesus Christ, while interiorly you adore yourselves, tremble; for God will hand you over to His enemy, because the holy places are in a state of corruption; many convents are no longer houses of God, but pastures for Asmodeus and his own.

“It will be at this time that the Antichrist will be born of a Hebrew nun, a false virgin who will be in communication with the ancient serpent, master of impurity; his father will be a bishop (Ev.). [We spell out the word “bishop” here. In the French text appear only the first two letters of évèque, the French word for bishop, but there is little doubt that this is the word they stand for, because in Mélanie’s first draft of the message the whole word is spelled out.]

“At birth he will vomit blasphemies, he will have teeth; in a word, this will be the devil incarnate; he will utter terrifying cries, he will work wonders, he will live only on impurities. He will have brothers who, although not incarnate devils like himself, will be children of evil; at the age of twelve, they will be noted for the valiant victories they will win; soon they will each be at the head of armies, assisted by legions from hell.

“The seasons will be changed, the earth will produce only bad fruits, the heavenly bodies will lose the regularity of their movements, the moon will reflect only a feeble reddish light; water and fire will lend convulsive motions to the earth’s sphere, causing mountains , cities, etc., to be swallowed up.

“Rome will lose the Faith and become the seat of the Antichrist.

“The demons of the air, together with the Antichrist, will work great wonders on the earth and in the air, and men will become ever more perverted. God will take care of His faithful servants and mend of good will; the Gospel will be preached everywhere, all peoples and all nations will have knowledge of the Truth.

“I address a pressing appeal to the earth: I call upon the true disciples of the God living and reigning in the heavens; I call upon the true imitators of Christ made man, the one true Savior of men; I call upon my children, my true devotees, those who have given themselves o me so that I may lead them to my Divine Son, those whom I bear as it were in my arms, those who have lived in my spirit; finally, I call upon the Apostles of the Latter Times, the faithful disciples of Jesus Christ who have lived in contempt of the world and of themselves, in poverty and humility, in contempt and silence, in prayer and mortification, in chastity and in union with God, in suffering, and unknown to the world. It is time for them to emerge and come enlighten the earth. Go, show yourselves to be my dear children; I am with you and in you, provided your faith is the light enlightening you in these evil times. May your zeal make your famished for the glory and honor of Jesus Christ. Do battle, children of light, you, the few who see thereby; fir the time of times, the end of ends, is at hand.

“The Church will be eclipsed, the world will be in consternation. But there are Enoch and Elias, they will preach with the power of God, and men of good will will believe in God, and many souls will be comforted; they will make great progress by virtue of the Holy Ghost and will condemn the diabolical errors of the Antichrist.

“Woe to the inhabitants of the earth. There will be bloody wars, and famines; plagues and contagious diseases; there will be frightful showers of animals; thunders which will demolish cities; earthquakes which will engulf countries; voices will be heard in the air; men will beat their heads against the walls; they will call on death, yet death will constitute their torment; blood will flow on all sides. Who could overcome, if God doesn’t shorten the time of trial? At the blood, tears and prayers of the righteous, God will relent; Enoch and Elias will be put to death; pagan Rome will disappear; the fire of Heaven will fall and consume three cities; the whole universe will be struck with terror, and many will allow themselves to be seduced because they didn’t adore the true Christ living in their midst. It is time; the sun is darkening; Faith alone will survive.

“The time is at hand; the abyss is opening. Here is the king of the kings of darkness. Here is the beast with its subjects, calling itself the savior of the world. In pride he will rise skyward to go up to Heaven; he will be stifled by the breath of St. Michael the Archangel. He will fall and the earth -which for three days will be in constant change- will open its fiery bosom; he will be plunged forever with all his followers into hell’s eternal chasms. Then water and fire will purify the earth and consume all the works of men’s pride, and everything will be renewed; God will be served and glorified.”

– CATHOLIC APOLOGETICS –

Come near, my children, be not afraid; I am here to tell you great news. If my people will not submit, I shall be forced to let fall the arm of my Son. It is so strong, so heavy, that I can no longer withhold it. For how long a time do I suffer for you! If I would not have my Son abandon you, I am compelled to pray to him without ceasing; and as to you, you take not heed of it. However much you pray, however much you do, you will never recompense the pains I have taken for you.

“Six days I have given you to labor, the seventh I had kept for myself; and they will not give it to me.” It is this which makes the arm of my Son so heavy. Those who drive the carts cannot swear without introducing the name of my Son. These are the two things which makes the arm of my Son so heavy.

If the harvest is spoilt, it is all on your account. I gave you warning last year with the potatoes (pommes de terre) but you did not heed it. On the contrary, when you found the potatoes spoilt, you swore, you took the name of my Son in vain. They will continue to decay, so that by Christmas there will be none left.

Ah, my children, do you not understand? Well, wait, I shall say it otherwise.

If you have wheat, it is no good to sow it; all you sow the insects will eat, and what comes up will fall into dust when you thresh it. There will come a great famine. Before the famine comes, the children under seven years of age will be seized with trembling and will die in the hands of those who hold them; the others will do penance by the famine. The walnuts will become bad, and the grapes will rot.

If they are converted, the stones and rocks will change into mounds of wheat, and the potatoes will be self-sown in the land.

Do you say your prayers well, my children?

“Not very well, Madam.”

Ah, my children, you must be sure to say them well morning and evening. When you cannot do better, say at least an Our Father and a Hail Mary. When you have time, say more.

There are none who go to Mass except a few aged women. The rest work on Sunday all summer; then in the winter, when they know not what to do, they go to Mass only to mock at religion. During Lent, they go to the meat-market like dogs. Have you never seen wheat that is spoilt, my children?

“No, Madam”

But you, my child, you must surely have seen some once when you were at the farm of Coin with your father. The owner of the field told your father to go and see his ruined wheat. You went together. You took two or three ears of wheat into your hands and rubbed them, and they fell to dust. Then you continued home. When you were still half and hour’s distance from Corps, your father gave you a piece of bread and said to you: “Here, my child, eat some bread this year at least; I don’t know who will eat any next year, if the wheat goes on like that.”

“Oh yes, Madam, I remember now; just at this moment I did not remember.”

Well, my children, you will make this known to all my people.

On September 19, 1846, we saw a beautiful Lady. We never said that this lady was the Blessed Virgin but we always said that it was a beautiful Lady.
I do not know if it is the Blessed Virgin or another person. As for me, I believe today that it is the Blessed Virgin. Here is what this Lady said to me:
“If my people continue, what I will say to you will arrive earlier, if it changes a little, it will be a little later.
France has corrupted the universe, one day it will be punished. The faith will die out in France: three quarters of France will not practice religion anymore, or almost no more, the other part will practice it without really practicing it. Then, after [that], nations will convert, the faith will be rekindled everywhere. A great country, now Protestant, in the north of Europe, will be converted; by the support of this country all the other nations of the world will be converted.
Before all that arrives, great disorders will arrive, in the Church, and everywhere. Then, after [that], our Holy Father the Pope will be persecuted. His successor will be a pontiff that nobody expects.
Then, after [that], a great peace will come, but it will not last a long time. A monster will come to disturb it.
All that I tell you here will arrive in the other century, at the latest in the year two thousand.”

JMJ

Secret which the Blessed Virgin gave me on the Mountain of La Salette on September 19, 1846.
Secr[e]t:
Mélanie, I will say something to you which you will not say to anybody:
The time of the God’s wrath has arrived!
If, when you say to the people what I have said to you so far, and what I will still ask you to say, if, after that, they do not convert, (if they do not do penance, and they do not cease working on Sunday, and if they continue to blaspheme the Holy Name of God), in a word, if the face of the earth does not change, God will be avenged against ungrateful people and the slaves of the demon.
My Son will make his power manifest! Paris, a city soiled by all kinds of crimes, will perish forever. Marseilles too will be destroyed in a little time. When these things happen, the disorder will be complete on the earth, the world will be given up to its impious passions.
The pope will be persecuted from all sides, they will shoot at him, they will want to put him to death, but no one will be able to do it, the Vicar of God will triumph again this time.
The priests and the Sisters, and the true servants of my Son will be persecuted, and many will die for the faith of Jesus-Christ.
A famine will reign at the same time.
After all these calamities have arrived, many will recognize the hand of God on them. They will convert, and do penance for their sins.
A great king will go up on the throne, and will reign many years. Religion will re-flourish and spread all over the world, and there will be a great abundance. The world, glad to be lacking nothing, will fall again into disorder, will give up God, and will return to its criminal passions.
[Among] God’s ministers, and the Spouses of Jesus-Christ, there will be some who will go astray, and that will be the most terrible.
Lastly, hell will reign on earth. It will be then that the Antichrist will be born of a Sister, but woe to her! Many will believe in him, because he will claim to have come from heaven, woe to those who will believe in him!
That time is not far away, twice 50 years will not go by.
My child, you will not say what I have just said to you. (You will not say it to anybody, you will not say if you must say it one day, you will not say what that it concerns). Finally, you will say nothing more until I tell you to say it!”
I pray to Our Holy Father the Pope to give me his holy blessing.

Mélanie Mathieu, Shepherdess of La Salette, Grenoble, July 6, 1851.

Wear The Brown Scapular As A Sign of Consecration To The Immaculate Heart Of Mary — October 7, 2015

Wear The Brown Scapular As A Sign of Consecration To The Immaculate Heart Of Mary

(from the Dedicated Decades Magazine Winter 2013 Edition page 5: The Universal Living Rosary Association)

The GREATEST PRIVILEGE is REAL and it is OURS!

“Heaven and Hell are locked in mortal combat and the earth shakes from the shock of the encounter; but no one feels it, no one sees it, no one hears it… no one cares!  The salvation of my soul is the most imperative and most urgent objective of my life on earth.  It is the greatest and grandest occupation that I can engage in.  In fact, I am here for no other purpose.”

The Scapular was given to St. Simon Stock, Prior of the Carmelite Order in England, in the year 1251.  On 16th July, Our Lady held out the Brown Scapular to St. Simon Stock and promised, ” Whoever dies piously wearing this Scapular will not suffer eternal flames”.  Through a Papal Bull on 3rd March 1322, the Sabbatine Privilege was given to the Church and this great Privilege has been confirmed by nine subsequent Popes.  The Brown Scapular is the Sacramental of the Church; it is a gift from Heaven and a symbol of salvation~ for a true Child of Mary is never lost!  Those clothed in her Garment of Grace will be protected and sanctified.  It is a safeguard in danger, whether physical or moral; it invites its wearer to penance and purity while shielding him from Satan and sin!

The Brown Scapular marks the militia of the Immaculate One.  Before God’s holy angels, it designates those who wear it as servants and slaves of Creation’s Queen, as specially beloved sons and daughters of the sun-robbed Virgin who has crushed the serpent’s head.  To serve the Mother of God is the highest privilege and, truly, our pledge of eternal peace.

The Brown Scapular is the garment of Mary Immaculate and, as such, it is a constant call to modesty in dress and conduct; a silent protest against present day permissiveness and a hidden appeal to reparation for the insolent nakedness of proud neo-paganism!  The Brown Scapular is much like a miniature hair-shirt and a mild reminder of our need for constant mortification.

The Brown Scapular is like swaddling clothes in which Our Heavenly Mother wraps her spiritual infants to protect them from the coldness of sin, to adorn them with the beauty of virtue and to warm them with God’s Love.  No matter how advanced we may be in years or learning or social standing, we are all but infants in virtue, helpless as babes in the woods of this bleak world.  We stand in dire need of our Mother’s constant care.

The Brown Scapular is a vital part of the Fatima message.  Sr. Lucia told us we cannot separate the Rosary and the Scapular; both are essential to our life of grace in bringing about the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and subsequent Reign of Christ the King.

Requirements of the Sabbatine Privilege:
  1. Wear the Scapular.
  2. Observe Chastity according to your state in life.
  3. Pray daily the Little Office of Our Lady OR Observe the fasts of the church together with abstaining from meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays OR substitute the Rosary with permission of a confessor OR substitute some other good work with the permission of a confessor.
